The new coach’s first match at the helm resulted in three valuable points thanks to a decisive early goal from Matt Sim. The result narrows third-placed Blacktown’s lead over United, reducing the gap from a daunting seven points to a hope-instilling four as teams begin to jostle for positions as we push into the back half of the 2018 NPL NSW Men’s season. Rockdale City Suns 4 – Wollongong Wolves 1 at Ilinden Sports Centre The resurgence of the Rockdale City Suns continues after a comprehensive 4-1 win against Wollongong Wolves at Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday. An inspired second half performance was the difference as Rockdale scored three in the second stanza despite going into the interval locked a 1-1. Aleks Canak opened the scoring after only 13 minutes but Peter Simonoski found an equaliser right on the half time whistle. It was a completely different story in the second stanza as the floodgates opened for the Suns with Alec Urosevski and Bai Antonio netting before Aleks Canak wrapped up the result with a goal at the death. The result catapults Rockdale into a tie for fifth spot on 17 points while Wollongong drops down to ninth. 6 NPLNSW.COM.AU TEAM OF THE WEEK 01: LARGE USE: OVER 150MM WIDE This logo has a smaller ‘®’ symbol FOOTBALL NSW WOULD LIKE TO THANK THEIR SPONSORS FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT 02: SMALL USE: 55MM - 150MM WIDE This logo has a larger ‘®’ symbol 7 keep our game beautiful INTEGRITY IN SPORT Football NSW and the National Premier Leagues NSW are bound by Football Federation Australia’s NATIONAL CODE OF CONDUCT and NATIONAL ANTI-DOPING POLICY. The Reds had won two on the bounce prior to last weekend’s narrow defeat to Blacktown City and will arrive into the fixture with the Suns six points away from fifth-placed Hakoah Sydney City East. United 58 would consider anything less than a finals finish a failure this season and will target the visit of Rockdale as three points they must collect in order sustain their hunt for a top five place. It won’t be easy against a Rockdale outfit who have turned their rocky campaign around in recent weeks. In their last five matches against the current top five, the Suns were only handily beaten by Blacktown City – Stamati Glaros’ side defeated Sutherland, drew with Sydney and were edged out by Wollongong Wolves and Hakoah Sydney City East by one goal margins. The 10th-placed visitors will now take on sixth- placed Sydney United 58 having proven their quality in the competition.
