NC SUPERIOR & DISTRICT COURTS
District Courts handle misdemeanors, juvenile and family disputes, and civil litigation involving less than $25,000. The judge decides cases. Superior Courts handle criminal cases and larger civil disputes; juries hear some cases. Voters elect 4 judges to the District Court this year; 2 judges are unopposed: Judge CHRISTY WILHELM (seat 1) and Judge BRENT CLONINGER (seat 4). Two other seats are contested (see below). Because the Legislature canceled the primary for this office, candidates from the same party may face each other. No Superior Court judge is elected this year.
