We need all our Charity Place runners to raise at least $3,250 over the course of their Marathon journey. The following terms and conditions have been written to ensure Oxfam can support its runners in the best possible way, while at the same time raise as much as possible for its work to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice. If you have any questions about the terms and conditions, please don’t hesitate to email us: [email protected]. As one of our official Charity Place runners, you can expect the following from Oxfam: 1. Once you have applied for an Oxfam Charity Place, your application will be assessed by the Oxfam Running Team. You will be informed of the outcome of your application by telephone or email as soon as possible, but within seven (7) business days. Filling out the Charity Place application does NOT guarantee you a place. 2. Once you have been offered a place and agree to the fundraising pledge ($3,250), and create a fundraising page on Crowdrise,* Oxfam will reserve one of its 2016 NYC Marathon Charity Places for you. However, Oxfam reserves the right to revoke race places in exceptional circumstances. Per Oxfam’s agreement with the NYC Marathon race organizers, NYRR, all Oxfam runners are REQUIRED to raise funds on the NYRR’s official platform Crowdrise. Once you have been offered an entry from Oxfam, you have pledged $3,250 to Oxfam you are responsible for contributing this amount to the organization. Dropping out does not relieve you of this responsibility unless Oxfam is able to find another runner to fill your entry. 3. We will send you a Running Pack with fundraising materials and an Oxfam running shirt to wear on Race Day. 4. We will send you regular support emails to help with your training and fundraising. 2016 TCS New York City Marathon Oxfam’s Charity Place Terms & Conditions 1 5. We will organize cheering points along the race route and provide day-of support to make sure you have a fantastic race day experience. As an Oxfam Charity Place runner, you agree to the following: Registration and fees: Although Oxfam will reserve one of its Charity Places for you, you will also need to register your details with the race organizers by September 15, 2016 (this is a NYRR deadline) and pay all applicable entry fees.* This will ensure you receive your running number and race day information. We will let you know when registration is open. Failure to register by the deadline – September 17, 2015 – will mean you will not be able to take part in the race - this is outside of Oxfam’s control. Please note that failure to register by the deadline does not relieve you of your fundraising responsibilities. *All charity runners will be charged the race registration fee of: $216 for NYRR members $255 for non-members $347 for non–U.S. residents All registration fees are subject to an $11 processing charge and must be paid online with a valid credit card. Credit cards will be charged the full registration fee upon the runner’s acceptance into the race. All Oxfam runners are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Fundraising: You will pledge to raise at least $3,250 for Oxfam’s work by November 6, 2016. We will consider fundraising extensions upon request in writing. Once you have been offered an entry from Oxfam, you have pledged $3,250 to the organization and are responsible for donating this amount to the organization. Dropping out does not relieve you of this responsibility unless Oxfam is able to find another runner to fill your entry. Online fundraising pages: You will use Crowdrise, the official fundraising platform of the TCS New York City Marathon to collect online donations. As an Oxfam Charity Place runner, you will agree that 100% of the money raised through your online fundraising page will come to Oxfam and will not be split with any other charity. • The Impact of Prize Money on Marathon Performance and Acclaim
THE IMPACT OF PRIZE MONEY ON MARATHON PERFORMANCE AND ACCLAIM A THESIS Presented to The Faculty of the Department of Economics and Business The Colorado College In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Arts By Colbert Heathcott March 2015 THE IMPACT OF PRIZE MONEY ON MARATHON PERFORMANCE AND ACCLAIM Colbert Heathcott March 2015 Economics Abstract In the past century, marathon running has become a major phenomenon in society. As a result, race participation and frequency have increased in the United States over the past decade. With the increased growth of the sport, the amount of money and the overall economic impact of races have risen, causing event organizers and sponsors to face decisions involving race awards and funding. Using an OLS regression model, this study examines the impact of prize money on marathon performance and acclaim. Results reveal marathon running to be exempt from incentive theory, as athletes do not perform better as a result of increases in winning prize money. Prize money also has no significant impact on the popularity of marathon events. Other factors, such as marathon location and history, significantly affect the acclaim of a marathon event. A thorough understanding on the impact of prize money is necessary for the future of the growing sport of marathon running. KEYWORDS: (Marathon, Incentive, Sports Marketing) ON MY HONOR, I HAVE NEITHER GIVEN NOR RECEIVED UNAUTHORIZED AID ON THIS THESIS Colbert Heathcott Signature Acknowledgments I would like to thank Dr. Judy Laux for advising me throughout the process of this research. Palabras clave: género, competición popular, participación, desigualdad, fondo Abstract Gender Inequality in Popular Long-Distance Events The social factors influencing participation in sports competitions are not equal and they do not influence men and women in the same way.
