    THE INTERNATIONAL FLYING DUTCHMAN CLASS BOOK www.sailfd.org 1 2 Preface and acknowledgements for the “FLYING DUTCHMAN CLASS BOOK” by Alberto Barenghi, IFDCO President The Class Book is a basic and elegant instrument to show and testify the FD history, the Class life and all the people who have contributed to the development and the promotion of the “ultimate sailing dinghy”. Its contents show the development, charm and beauty of FD sailing; with a review of events, trophies, results and the role past champions . Included are the IFDCO Foundation Rules and its byelaws which describe how the structure of the Class operate . Moreover, 2002 was the 50th Anniversary of the FD birth: 50 years of technical deve- lopment, success and fame all over the world and of Class life is a particular event. This new edition of the Class Book is a good chance to celebrate the jubilee, to represent the FD evolution and the future prospects in the third millennium. The Class Book intends to charm and induce us to know and to be involved in the Class life. Please, let me assent to remember and to express my admiration for Conrad Gulcher: if we sail, love FD and enjoyed for more than 50 years, it is because Conrad conceived such a wonderful dinghy and realized his dream, launching FD in 1952. Conrad, looked to the future with an excellent far-sightedness, conceived a “high-perfor- mance dinghy”, which still represents a model of technologic development, fashionable 3 water-line, low minimum hull weight and performance . Conrad ‘s approach to a continuing development of FD, with regard to materials, fitting and rigging evolution, was basic for the FD success.

    mercoledì 22 ottobre 2008 sport pag. 48 Ciccio Celon protagonista al Mondiale Tp 52 di Luca Belligoli Claudio "Ciccio" Celon (Yc TORRI ), l'unico velista italiano che, oltre ad aver vinto l'America's Cup, ha partecipato al Giro del mondo e a tre edizioni delle Olimpiadi (F.D. e Soling) sarà impegnato nel campionato mondiale TP 52 a Puerto Calero nell'isola canaria di Lanzarote a bordo di Pisco Sour III. In equipaggio con Celon ci sono, tra gli altri, Giovanni Cassinari, Vasco Vascotto, Francesco Bruni, Michele Paoletti, Silvio Arrivabene e Luca Albarelli. Sono 14 i Tp52, provenienti da 11 nazioni, che andranno all'assalto del campione uscente, lo svedese Artemis che vinse il titolo 2007 a Porto Cervo. Artemis si avvarrà di Russell Coutts alla tattica. Oltre a Coutts, stelle della manifestazione saranno Paul Cayard su Desafìo, Dean Barker su Bribòn, Terry Hutchinson sul Quantum neovincitore del circuito Audi MedCup, Jochen Schuemann su Platoon, Cameron Dunn sul Sinergy condotto da Serguey Pichugin, Magnus Holmberg tattico di Riccardo Simoneschi su Audi Sailing Team Powered by Q8. Si regata fino a sabato con prove sulle boe alternate a una costiera e a una lunga di 60 miglia, prevista per giovedì. LE REGATE. Sabato e domenica prossimi, lo YACHTING CLUB TORRI organizza il V° Trofeo Ufo d'aututunno valido per lo zonale Ufo 22. Negli stessi giorni a Riva si corre il Trofeo Torboli (Optimist) e la Fraglia vela Malcesine ospita il Trofeo Best Wind Shop prima prova del Campionato autunnale Melges 24. Saranno in gara anche le Star e i Dragoni.

  • La Vela a Tokyo 2020
    Carissimi, siamo finalmente giunti a questo appuntamento Olimpico! Lo Sport – nella più nobile delle sue funzioni – potrà riunire tutti sotto un’unica bandiera: quella della solidarietà, del rispetto e della sana competizione. Questi lunghi mesi che ci stiamo lasciando faticosamente alle spalle hanno severamente provato il nostro spirito e ci hanno costretto a considerare in maniera più genuina i rapporti umani, le priorità della nostra vita, i nostri affetti. Lo Sport in questo contesto ha rafforzato la sua valenza sociale dimostrandosi un collante e nel contempo una valvola di sfogo. Questi Giochi devono e vogliono rappresentare una rinascita verso un graduale ritorno alla normalità, senza però dimenticare quanto accaduto. Preparare una spedizione Olimpica non è affatto semplice, soprattutto in uno sport come il nostro dove la preparazione atletica è solo uno dei molteplici componenti: meteorologia, tecnologia, programmazione, logistica, gestione delle risorse sono solo alcuni degli aspetti che attraversano in maniera trasversale il mondo della vela. Per questo vorrei ringraziare tutti coloro che hanno partecipato alla formazione di questa squadra: il Direttore Tecnico Michele Marchesini, tutti i Tecnici che in questo quadriennio hanno lavorato meticolosamente, il Team Manager Guglielmo Vatteroni, e tutto il comparto tecnico, medico e atletico dei collaboratori. Per ultimo – ma non certo per importanza, visto che questa pubblicazione è dedicata proprio a loro – il mio pensiero va ai ragazzi che ci rappresenteranno ai Giochi Olimpici: questi anni di preparazione li hanno visti maturare come atleti ma soprattutto sotto il profilo umano. Il mio augurio è che possano raccogliere il massimo da questa esperienza che rimane uno dei momenti più alti e indimenticabili nella vita di uno sportivo.
