Public Opinion Poll Nine Wards of North Rift Valley Kenya
April 13-23, 2019 Detailed Methodology • The survey was conducted on behalf of the International Republican Institute’s Center for Insights in Survey Research by Infotrak Research and Consulting. • Data was collected between April 13 and 23, 2019 through computer-assisted personal interviews (CAPI). • The total sample consists of n=5,559 adults aged 18 and older across 18 wards in six counties. Three wards were selected in each of the six counties, and approximately 300 interviews were assigned to each ward. Within each ward, the sample was stratified into sub-locations. Sampling points within sub-locations were determined randomly, and approximately 10 interviews were conducted per sampling point. Each sampling point was assigned a starting location, from which random walk was conducted to select households. At selected households, a Kish grid was used to select the respondent. • Due to the purposive sampling design of select wards with select counties, the data is not representative at the country or the county levels, and analysis can be performed at the ward level only. • The actual sample size and margin of error for each ward with a confidence level of 95 percent is as follows: COASTAL KENYA • Kwale county: Puma (n=354, +/-4.9); Kinango (n=305, +/-5.5); Mwereni (n=302, +/-5.5); • Kilifi county: Magarini (n=305, +/-5.4); Mwawesa (n=304, +/-5.2); Tezo (n=306, +/-5.4); • Mombasa county: Shanzu (n=308, +/-5.5); Majengo (n=312, +/-5.4); Timbwani (n=302, +/-5.6) NORTH RIFT VALLEY • Kisumu county: Chemilil (n=301, +/-5.5); Central Kisumu (n=309, +/-5.5); East Seme (n=303, +/-5.5); • Baringo county: Maji Mazuri/Mumberes (n=323, +/-5.2); Loiyamorok (n=301, +/-5.2); Kapropita (n=319, +/-5.2); • Elgeyo-Marakwet county: Soy South (n=304, +/-5.4); Kapchemutwa (n=301, +/-5.5); Embobut/Embulut (n=300, +/-5.4). • The data was weighted for gender and age groups. • The response rate was 95 percent. • The information in this report has been compiled in accordance with international standards for market and social research methodologies. Figures in charts and tables may not add up to 100 percent due to rounding. • The survey was funded by the National Endowment for Democracy. 2 Baringo County Baringo: Do you believe your county is moving in the right direction or the wrong direction?
