Macbride (Loranthaceae) Cultivo de tejidos in vitro, análisis fitoquímico preliminar y actividad antibacteriana de Psittacanthus linearis (Killip) J.K. Macbride (Loranthaceae) DOI: 10.15446/rev.colomb.biote.v21n2.83410 ABSTRACT Hemiparasitic plants commonly known as mistletoe (muérdago in Spanish) in the families Santalaceae and Loranthaceae are com- mon in various kinds of plants or trees, and many hemiparasitic plants are used for medicinal purposes in various parts of the world. The objective of the present work, carried out in Psittacanthus linearis (suelda con suelda), a representative species in the seasonally dry forest (SDF) from the north of Perú, was to study aspects of in vitro tissue culture, carry out preliminary phytochemical analysis, and assess antibacterial activity. Seeds of individuals of P. linearis, which used Prosopis pallida (algarrobo) as host plant, were collect- ed and used to induce in vitro seed germination, clonal propagation, callus induction and organogenesis. Stems, leaves and fruits of individuals of P. linearis were dried, powdered, and subjected to ethanol extraction. Posteriorly the extract was first recovered with ethanol and the remnant with chloroform, which formed the ethanolic and chloroformic fraction. A preliminary phytochemical screening was performed and preliminary antibacterial studies with Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeru- ginosa were carried out and their results are discussed. This is the first report about in vitro tissue culture, phytochemical analysis and antibacterial activity of P. linearis. The results may have important implications for understanding physiological and biochemical interactions between host and hemiparasitic species as well as P. -

Inconsistence in its activities has however, been suggestively linked with some factors. Hence, this study was carried out to establish the effect of some extrinsic factors on the antibacterial activities of T. bangwensis against some diarrheal causing bacteria. Antibacterial activity of T. bangwensis, collected from some parts of Nigeria was determined by standard agar-diffusion method. Results from this study showed a significantly higher zone of bacterial inhibition with chloroform extract when compared with ethanol and aqueous extracts (P<0.05). Higher antibacterial activities was also observed with extracts obtained from air dried plants than those obtained from sun dried and oven dried plants (P<0.05). Steaming method of extraction produced a significantly higher zone of bacterial inhibition than cold and hot methods of extraction (P<0.05). -

The work was conducted from May to September 2015. An inventory of all woody species and the associated ant fauna was carried out beforehand, followed by an inventory of the ant fauna associated couples Theobroma cacao/Loranthaceae during periods of non-flowering, flowering and fruiting Loranthaceae. We inventoried a total of 187 plants of which 44 (23.53%) were parasitized by flowering-shrub epiphytes (Loranthaceae). Theobroma cacao (cocoa) appeared to be the most abundant species (122 plants) followed by Dacryodes edulis (16 safou trees) and Mangifera indica (15 mango trees). Three species of Loranthaceae were identified: Tapinanthus preussii (Engler) Van Tieghem and Phragmanthera capitata (Sprengel) S. -

Mistletoes and their dependent insects, such as butterfl ies, moths, and psyllids, are sensitive indicators of disturbance regime and overall forest integrity. 2. The health of the whole forest ecosystem is important for maintaining popu- lations of insects in the canopy because different insect life stages depend on different types of plants. 3. Herbivorous insects and mammals, along with fi re, help to regulate mistletoe abundance. Summary This chapter focuses on the ecological interactions between mistletoe plants and their invertebrate inhabitants (insects and spiders), drawing on our own empirical research in southeastern Australia and several other studies conducted worldwide. Our research on box mistletoes and their host eucalypt trees in remnant woodlands was the fi rst direct comparison of invertebrate fauna inhabiting mistletoes and their host plants (Burns 2009 ; Burns et al. 2011 ). From this present study, more differences were observed in the phytochemistry than the anatomy of the mistletoes understudied. All species and infraspecific taxa of the genus Loranthus described by Engler from Africa are listed alphabetically irrespective of whether or not the type specimens are present in the herbarium at Berlin-Dahlem (B). All type specimens are listed with full locality data, status (as far as known) and the currently accepted name. In this enumeration as well as in an index the collections not present at B are marked. Many type specimens are extant at B which, according to recent publications, are thought to have been destroyed during the second World War. For many other type specimens it was not known that they are present at B. Introduction The general herbarium of the Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Museum Berlin-Dahlem (B) holds about 2200 sheets of Loranthaceae not including Viscum; nearly a quarter of them are type specimens which were not destroyed in 1943. According to Hiepko (1987) Lorantha ceae belong to those families of which the type specimens were extracted and safeguarded in the basement of the museum building shortly before the air raid in 1943. The following publications on types at the general herbarium in B show that many type specimens belonging to other flowering plants families have also not been destroyed in 1943: Butzin 1978, 1980, 1981; Lack 1978; Leuenberger 1978, 1979; Scho1z 1977, 1978, 1979; Zepernick 1978, 1979. -

Accepted 14 September, 2008 The Loranthaceae constitute the most important parasite plants that cause variable damages: morphological, technological, ecological and socio-economic. These numerous and damaging effects make some parasitic angiosperms true agronomic threats, especially in developing countries.The Loranthaceae is represented in Cameroon by 26 species gathered into 7 genus. The study area includes four sites: a traditional plantation of Cola nitida situated at Penja (70 km Nord of Douala), the main road to Douala airport, one quarter (Logbessou) and Makondo village (80 km East of Douala) in an orchard dominated by Citrus. A total of 2643 individuals of DBH (diameter at breast height) greater or equal to 5 cm were inventoried. 637 individuals were parasitized. Eight known species were identified. Phragmanthera capitata is more frequent and more abundant (76.14%). The infested host trees belong to 16 species gathered into 12 genus and 10 families.
