Course description : Linguistic and cultural one-term course (30 ECTS) for foreign students who have attained the C1 of CEFR in French and are aiming to attain the level C2. This DU allows the continuation of university studies requiring an advanced cultural and linguistic level, especially in the field of humanities and social studies.

Admission conditions :

Any higher education diploma obtained in the country of origin or a university diploma of the level C1, like DU FLE C1 in . - Language prerequisite : Knowledge of French equivalent to the level DELF C1 or to the level 5 of TCF (test of French knowledge) or of TEF (Test of Evaluation of French).

Course goals: - A very high level of knowledge : The C2 level is the maximum level of the CECRL and corresponds to that of a fully bilingual speaker. Mastery of university methodological tools

- Mastery of academic methodological tools related to studies in the field of sciences: article review, surveys, documents, writing of academic articles, communication at seminars, production of annotated bibliographies, synthesis of documents, presentation of specialized issues ……. -Knowledge of the references of culture and civilization applied within the French university.

Possible further studies : This DU allows to continue all university studies that require a good linguistic and cultural level.

Rules of obtaining the diploma : - Consideration of all notes and overall average - Rules of attribution of notes : 10 to 12/20 : sufficient 12 to14/20 : satisfactory, fair 14 to 16/20 : good 16/20 and more : very good - The ECs make up for each other. -An EU is taken for granted when all the constituent elements have been followed and the average of the EC considering the coefficients is equal to or greater than 10. - UE is cumulated without time limits. Any CE with a score of 10 or higher is considered to be definitely acquired. However, in the case of re-enrolment after interruption of studies, only the UE are accumulated, the EC alone which are not included in the validation of an UE are not retained after the semester authorized for preparing the diploma.

Presentation of lessons and evaluation procedures:

For all courses, the evaluation is based on continuous assessment, including attendance (no more than 3 absences are allowed for a EC) and punctuality (delays or early departures from an EC are counted accordingly). The final grade is based on the average of the marks acquired during the continuous assessments and the grade of the end-of-term exams at the end of the semester. The end-of-term exams aim to check the skills acquired during the semester.

Professor Emmanuelle Sauvage Content/description Teaching of general and comparative literature dealing with intertextuality and interculturality in literature especially through travel narratives of yesterday and today or francophone postcolonial literature. Target skills Knowing how to decode a contemporary literary work by placing it in its cultural and aesthetic context. Rules of Procedures F.ET.E

Course Validation Rules 1/ assiduity The F.ET.E Language and Culture Courses are one-term courses based on continuous assessment (It is not like normal lectures) : Therefore, Students’ participation in all classes is mandatory. In case of absence for reasons that must be justified, the student must inform the teacher in charge of the course. If a student is absent for more than 3 times in a course, the course is not validated. (*) 2/ punctuality Students commit to strictly respect the classes schedules : no delay is tolerated, no departure before the end of the course either. Repeated delays and / or early departures from the course may be counted as an absence and may result in putting the student at risk of not validating the course .3/ Continuous assessment : It needs to be understood that continuous assessment means :

- Participation in all written or oral activities required by the teacher in charge of the course: The tasks required (homework or presentations) must be achieved within the deadlines set by the teacher;

- Participation at the end-of-term exam. If, for an explicit justified reason, a student cannot participate at this exam, it is proposed to him to take part in the retake exam

4/ Final grade : The final score is established on the basis of the average between the continuous assessment and the end-of-term exams, according to the calculation rules conveyed to students at the beginning of the course : That could be 50/50, 60/40, or even 70/30, depending on the type of the course.

5/ Retake sessions : The retake exams for the first term take place during the second term exams ; the retake exams for the second term take place at the beginning of June.

6/ Using dictionaries during the retake exams :

- Using bilingual dictionaries is allowed for language courses ; levels 1 and 2. - Using unilingual dictionaries is allowed for language courses, levels 3, 4 et 5 ;

- Using all types of dictionaries (bilingual or unilingual) is allowed for all levels of courses with cultural content.

It needs to be understood that a language dictionary means : Paper dictionary or electronic one excluding phones and laptops.

(*) Any particular case must be reported to the administrative director of F.ET.E, who will transfer it to the director of F.ET.E for decision-making.
