Yes, unfortunately September is upon us and the cooler weather is already hitting Michigan! I pray that we get at least 2 more solid months of drivable weather so we can enjoy our cars just a little longer! The August membership meeting was held at the Flint Golf Club. All of our cars looked GREAT sitting there on the lawn. From what I can tell, our group picture looks awesome! Not sure how my car got cen- tered in the picture, but I am sure glad Gary Drago brought out his recent acquisition, a 1990 Black ZR1! I would like to once again thank Dee and Jim for arranging to host our meeting at such a GREAT Golf Course! And most importantly, thank the staff of Flint Golf Club for another amazing evening and AWE- SOME food prepared by Chef Bob! I think I ate too many ribs. If you missed the Back to the Brick viewing party at the Great Lakes Plaza, you missed another fabulous night! We had the most Corvette’s in attendance since Jim and Dee started hosting this event! To my knowledge, we had five difference clubs represented that evening, more than a 100 Corvette’s, along with WNEM channel 5 doing a spotlight on Corvette’s. If you haven’t seen any of the pictures or videos, check out our Facebook page for full details! And to top off the week, on Friday, August 18th, Brick Street of Grand Blanc hosted their annual “Corvette at Brick Street”. Although the weather looked questionable, we had another awesome turn out with several Corvette clubs in attendance! On behave of Team Corvette, I would like to thank Brick Street of Grand Blanc and Gary Drago for arranging another awesome night! The 8th Annual Back to the Bricks Corvette Reunion was another success with so many Corvette’s in at- tendance. Roger Norton, Jr. reported that we had more than 325 cars attend the reunion and from what he can remember, that is the most cars he has seen there in a while! We literally had Corvette’s from the downtown bridge to almost 5th Avenue on both Saginaw Street and M.L King Jr. Avenue. If you have pho- tos you would like to share, please get with Gary Drago at 810-771-8531 or share them on the Corvette Re- union Facebook Page. Don’t forget that our Fall Color Tour is coming up on October 5th through the 8th. We will be leaving the parking lot of Kmart on Vienna Road in Clio at 10:00 a.m. We ask that all attendees bring their radios so we can keep in contact with each other as we head up to Garland Lodge and Golf Resort. If you have not booked your room at the Super 8 Hotel in Grayling for Saturday night, please contact them ASAP at 989- 348-8888 and make sure you inform them that you are with Team Corvette. If you are available and still want to attend, we have 3 more openings. Our September meeting will be held at Mario’s on Fenton Road. As we did at the August meeting, we will be holding nominations for the 2018 Team Corvette Board of Directors. If all possible we would love to get all of our members in attendance for both the September and October meetings. We will publish all of nominees in our October newsletter. Lastly, I would like to remind our members take advantage of the “Suski Bucks” that Suski Chevrolet- Buick provides our members. To get more details on how this program works, please contact Jack Matsko directly! Thank you! The life size likeness of Walter P. Chrysler was created by sculptor Joseph Rundell and is located on Baggage Carousel #1 at Bishop International Airport. Al Hatch, founder of Back to the Bricks and Chairman of the Board indicated that in addition to Chrysler, a statue of Charles Nash is planned for Carousel #2 and will be installed sometime next year. Hatch said “Chrysler and Nash were a very important part of the development of motor vehicles in Flint and were presidents of General Motors divisions. Placing them at Bishop Airport, where more than a million travelers a year will see them and learn about their contribution to the automobile industry, will continue to solidify Flint’s position as the place where the American automobile was born.” UNVEILING, P. 2 A feature of the display is a 46” monitor that depicts Chrysler’s involvement as president of Buick and his accomplishments in cost cutting and production increases. • Monthly Newsletter of the St Louis Chapter Buick Club of America Volume XXXVIII No
Monthly Newsletter of the St Louis Chapter Buick Club of America Volume XXXVIII No. 9 September 2019 Director’s Letter September, 2019 Greetings, Well this month’s big adventure was attending the 2019 Heartland Regional in Stillwater, MN, hosted by the Fireball Chapter. Stillwater is really a neat little river town located on the Saint Croix River. The historic down town area next to the river makes this area an excellent destination for tourist and travelers. We enjoyed dining along the river front and a cruise on a river boat for the awards banquet. Thanks to numerous, last minute entries, we ended up with close to 100 entries, with 90 cars on the show field. The show featured peer judging and trophies were awarded to the 10 most popular cars, along with a “Best of Show” 1957 Roadmaster and a “Long Distance” award going to a 1941 Buick Woodie, from New York. This year’s event featured tours to a cheese factory, a distillery, a restoration shop, and a historic trolley tour through Stillwater, all which are featured later in the Gazette. Bill and Ginny Landers, Mark and Sheree Kistner, Richard and Vera Self, Jeanne and I manned the canopy tent, set- up on the show field to promote our 2020 Heartland Regional / $20.00 Heartland Special. Based on the traffic, comments and shirt sales, I feel we received a very positive response for our event. And yes, we are now the proud caretakers of the Heartland Regional Trailer. 2019 Heartland Regional Meeting, held by John McCarthy, Director. John thanked the Fireball Chapter for hosting the event, and noted that the Rock Valley chapter had with- drawn from hosting the 2021 Heartland Regional.
