Weekly Meetings - The Rotary Club of St Peters meets on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM at the Kensington Hotel, 23 Regent St., Kensington, S.A. 5068. Visitors are welcome.

Report of meeting 3151 held on Tuesday 29th September at the San Giorgio Centre.

This was a combined meeting of the Group 8 clubs in Rotary District 9510, comprising Burnside, Campbelltown, Kent Town, Magill Sunrise, Morialta, Norwood, St Peters and Tea Tree Gully. Chairman for the evening was PDG Arthur Manser.

Following the arrival of His Excellency the Governor of SA, Honorary Hieu Van Le, who was greeted by PDG Euan Miller, President of the Rotary Club of Norwood, Di Clements, the Area Governor of Group 9, gave the Acknowledgement to Country and St Peters Rotarian, PDG Keith Shaw gave the Invocation and Loyal Toast. President of the Rotary Club of Kent Town, Ellen Griffiths delivered the Toast to Rotary International.

The Club Presidents were all invited to make their announcements, and this was completed in record time.

Guest Speaker - His Excellency The Governor of SA, Honorary Hieu Van Le The Honourable Hieu Van Le AC was born in Central Vietnam in 1954, where he attended school before studying Economics and Business Management at the Dalat University in the Highlands.

He, with his wife, Lan, arrived in Australia in 1977 and settled in Adelaide and he studied at the , where he earned a degree in Economics and Accounting and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He gained Certified Practising Accountant accreditation, and from 1991 worked at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, where he led many high-profile matters.

In August 2007, he was sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor of . Over the next seven years in this role, he served as the Patron or Honorary member of many organisations and on the 1st September 2014, was sworn in as Governor of South Australia. It is understood that His Excellency is the first Vietnamese-born person who has ever been appointed to a Vice-Regal position in the world. He is patron of more than 200 organisations.

He was awarded the Australia Day Medal in 1996 for outstanding service to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and has been awarded the Centenary of Federation Medal for service to the advancement of multiculturalism. His Excellency was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) in 2010 and a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in 2016, for service to the community of South Australia. He has also been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from both Adelaide University and Flinders University.

His Excellency is married to Mrs Lan Le, with whom he has two adult sons, Don and Kim.

In his address to the gathering, His Excellency commenced by reiterating the origins of Rotary by Paul Harris in 1905 and how the organisation had expanded since then. He noted that the world is a completely different place than it was in 1905 and the recent spread of the Covid-19 virus had really changed the world.

He is an honorary member of two Rotary clubs and he outlined some of the significant projects and achievements by Rotarians.

He noted that attracting new members is an ongoing issue for Rotary Clubs.

His Excellency emphasised that we need to determine whether our club membership and Rotary projects truly reflect the cultural diversity of our society.

Area Governor of Group 8 Brian Kretschmer thanked His Excellency for attending the meeting and for addressing the gathering.

Wed 4 November Rotary Foundation Dinner – San Giorgio Centre – A Rotary Fundraising Event and a night to recognise Paul Harris Fellows and folk who contribute to the Rotary Centurion Program

Tues 10 November - Design and Creativity Student Awards Students show projects they have designed and made as part of their studies. Past awards have included pizza ovens, barbecues, prom dresses, surf board and a bike work station.

Tues 17 November- Assembling Birthing Kits - St Peters Youth Centre for women to give birth in a hygienic manner Music for Dementia - Current Project partnering with the Council of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters (Grant of $5,000) purchase of headphones and implementation.
