Corporate Communications
BMW Corporate Communications United SportsCar Championship BMW Team RLL misses out on podium in Sebring – BMW Z4 GTLMs finish fourth and eighth. Sebring (US), 21st March 2015. Lucas Luhr (DE), John Edwards (US) and Jens Klingmann (DE) finished fourth in the GTLM class for BMW Team RLL in the 12 Hours of Sebring (US), the second round of the United SportsCar Championship (USCC). The three drivers completed a total of 329 laps with the number 24 BMW Z4 GTLM. The Corvette crew of Antonio García (ES), Jan Magnussen (DK) and Ryan Briscoe (AU) claimed GTLM victory. With temperatures of up to 33 degrees Celsius, the endurance classic at the Sebring International Raceway turned out to be a truly hot affair. For most parts of the race, the GTLM field was running closely together, delivering some gripping racing action to the American fans. Following a final full-course yellow with two hours to go, the cars on the lead lap were once again bunched up before entering the decisive phase of the race. With final stint driver Luhr at the wheel, the number 24 car crossed the line in fourth after 12 hours of racing, despite a problem with the power steering in the final stages of the race. For Dirk Werner (DE), Bill Auberlen (US) and Augusto Farfus (BR) the race didn’t go according to plan with the number 25 BMW Z4 GTLM. After five and a half hours, Werner entered the pit lane with a damaged front subframe, running in sixth at that time. The necessary repair work cost the trio more than ten laps, and they dropped to the very back of the GTLM field. -

Imsa Weekend at Mid- Ohio
PRESS INFORMATION MICHELIN DELIVERS ACROSS THE BOARD AT IMSA WEEKEND AT MID- OHIO Lexington, Ohio. (September 27, 2020) – Michelin engineers headed into the Acura Sports Car Challenge knowing the importance of providing tires that deliver on all counts at one of the most technical circuits of the 2020 IMSA season, the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. After Michelin’s busiest race weekend of the year to mark the midway point, with four total races and more than eight hours of race time featuring 17 automotive brands, the results were successful across the board. “We recognize Mid-Ohio as one of the most technically demanding circuits of the IMSA season with its mix of fast and slow corners, heavy braking zones, elevation changes and a critical need to put power down on acceleration. To do that while delivering consistent performance and extended tread life is the type of challenge that provides us the ability to deliver outstanding tires for our consumers,” said Tony Ménard, director of motorsport, Michelin North America. “The challenge for Michelin is to not only produce that level of performance for one car or one team, but to deliver that performance across the board, to all of the manufacturers and teams that make IMSA competition popular and widely respected. “Seeing records set and double stints run allowed the teams to focus on their race strategy. Seeing 11 different car makers take podiums and so many different combinations of chassis perform so well is very gratifying.” WeatherTech Race Notes Acura (DPi) and Lexus (GT Daytona) continued their streak of “three-peats” at Mid-Ohio. -

2019 IMSA MICHELIN Pilot Challenge Road America 120 #21 Harry Gottsacker and Mason Filippi #98 Mark Wilkins and Michael Lewis
2019 IMSA MICHELIN Pilot Challenge Road America 120 #21 Harry Gottsacker and Mason Filippi #98 Mark Wilkins and Michael Lewis Filippi and Gottsacker Score Another Victory for Hyundai in Wet and Wild Road America 120 A lightning storm delayed, then shortened the Road America 120, followed by intermittent rain and wild track conditions, but nothing could stop young guns and Mason Filippi and Harry Gottsacker from a perfect race, which resulted in their first IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge victory. Over an hour-long weather delay shortened the race from 120 to 75 minutes, but it was worth the wait for the BHA crew. With quiet skies but potential for rain still looming, Mason Filippi and the #21 crew gambled and chose to start the race on slick tires. The Road America racetrack is over four miles long, conditions and weather can be different from one section to the next. In addition, it was Filippi’s first time racing at the legendary road course, he had his work cut out for him. The green flag dropped and Filippi, who qualified sixth, dropped to 13th in the opening laps as the still wet track was like an ice rink under his slick tires. He briefly chased the field and then as the dry line developed, Filippi patiently and precisely used his slick tires to work his way through the competition. Strategy became the challenge, as each driver is required to complete 25 minutes of drive time in the race. That coupled with an abbreviated race and heavy rains once again looming on the radar meant that Kyle Compton, lead engineer of the #21 Hyundai Veloster N TCR, determined Filippi would stay on track until the rain returned. -
Historic Supersebring Weekend Highlights Michelin’S Commitment to Two Global Sports Car Championships
PRESS INFORMATION HISTORIC SUPERSEBRING WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS MICHELIN’S COMMITMENT TO TWO GLOBAL SPORTS CAR CHAMPIONSHIPS The biggest crowd in Sebring International Raceway history packed the historic Florida race circuit for an extraordinary week that was properly billed as SuperSebring and became the largest event in Michelin Motorsport history. Called upon to support four championships, including the prestigious FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech Championship, and 137 of 140 entries, Michelin responded with a massive 24,000 square foot tent housing 16,000 tires, 55 engineers and motorsport tire specialists, and a 42-person tire mounting center staff. “With 20 different automotive marques, and so many outstanding teams, and drivers it was a great responsibility to provide the tires and technical support to help the teams perform at the highest possible level,” said Matthieu Bonardel, Michelin director of motorsport. “Sebring is the birthplace of American endurance racing and a technically demanding circuit. The tremendous number of fans provided us the opportunity to engage with them and share their passion for motorsport. They inspired everyone to perform at the highest possible level every lap.” By the end of Saturday’s 67th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Michelin teams had recorded 30,803 laps, or more than 127,234 miles, of the fast and bumpy 3.74 mile, 17-turn Florida circuit throughout the weekend in a wide range of conditions. The resulting data and insights are invaluable in the development of future products. Consistent and Versatile… Day and Night After Thursday’s IMSA Prototype Challenge and the IMSA MICHELIN Pilot Challenge on Friday afternoon, Friday evening’s 1,000 Miles of Sebring was the first of the two bill-topping races of this weekend’s double-header at the famous American circuit.
