Median Auction Races SUPPLEMENT TO THE RACINGCALENDARFEBRUARY 15th 2018 1 ....................................................................................................................................................................................................... MEDIAN AUCTION RACES The British Horseracing Authority has given permission for anumber of Median Auction Races to be run during the 2018 Flat Season. This Supplement contains information pertaining to horses whose sire establishedone or more yearling sales at the main Public Auctions held in Europe and North America in 2016 and 2017 respectively,and which took place after June 30th of the yearling year. The enclosed Supplement with statistics compiled by Weatherbys shows the Median Values in pounds sterling for the Stallions whose progeny are eligible for these races. Auction prices used in the calculation of the Stallion Median Auctionprice are inclusive of buyers’ premiums, where applicable, and conversion to pounds sterling. In the event of any query or dispute arising concerning either ahorse’s weight or the eligibility of astallion’s progeny,Owners and Tr ainers should, in the first instance, contact the Weight Adding DepartmentatWeatherbys. This Supplement should be retained until February 2019, as the race conditions of all Median Auction Races will contain areferral to the Supplement to establish qualification and, where applicable, ahorse’s weight. The definition of aMedian Auction Maiden Race is "a Flat race restricted to maiden horses, which are the progeny of stallions which established amedian price for the sale of yearlings contemporary with the entrants in the race based on the sale or bought in price of one or more animals at specified sales". In addition, horses are excluded which have been sold or bought in by public auction under the hammer at specified sales at aprice more than £20,000 above the median price stated in the race conditions. The definition of aNovice Median Auction race is "a Flat race restricted to horses which have not won more than two flat races AND have not won aflat race which is classified as Class 1ormore than one flat race which is classified as Class 2or3inSchedule 2AND are the progeny of stallions which establishedamedian price for the sale of yearlings contemporary with the entrants in the race based on the sale or bought in price of one or more animals at specified sales". In addition, horses are excluded which have been sold or bought in by public auction under the hammer at specified sales at aprice more than £20,000 above the median price stated in the race conditions. The "specified sales" will cover the main Public Auction Sales held in Europe and North America (see below) and the stallion median prices will be those as compiled by Weatherbys, and published annually each February/March in aSupplement to The Racing Calendar.Fromthis Supplement Owners and Tr ainers will be able to establish the weights which their two and three year old horses should carry in Median Auction Races. For older horses, please refer to previousSupplementsorcontact the Weight Adding DepartmentatWeatherbys.
