Different entities have different definitions of CSR but the Board defines CSR as contributing either economically or socially to the sustainable development of the community. Annual CSR Progress Report 2017 Page 4 Foreword Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the process of how a company gives back to the Community. Companies may do this through donations to charities and other society activities like sports, health, education or community services. The National Gaming Board (NGB) under Act No 6 of 2016 is mandated to participate and contribute to good causes in accordance with the law. The National Gaming Board has issued a frame work for the implementation of CSR by the operators. This framework identifies a number of different options for CSR in Uganda. These areas are; education, sports, health and community activities. The CSR program is annual by each operator and is a condition for licensing. This report spells out the achievements made in the first year of licensing by each operator. The report shall be a baseline for the CSR activities going forward. I would like to extend the Board’s gratitude to operators who have been able to implement CSR, we look forward to improving the CSR implementation and promoting of good causes in society. Edgar Agaba Chief Executive Officer Annual CSR Progress Report 2017 Page 5 1.0 INTRODUCTION It has been documented that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities have the capacity to contribute to the macroeconomic development of a developing country through sustainable development to all. The purpose of this report is to document the contribution of the gaming sector towards the achievement of Uganda’s NDP II through contributions to better health, Education, employment and inclusive growth among others. The report specifies the different activities that were undertaken by the different operators and where these activities were conducted. This report also contains recommendations that will ensure full participation and effective contribution of the sector to good cause. Annual CSR Progress Report 2017 Page 6 2.0 COMPANIES ENGAGED IN CSR IN 2017 Arua Casino T/A Press to win Arua Casino in 2017 was actively involved in supporting education through partnering with “care for the African kids”, a school located in Gomba district. Through this partnership, Arua Casino contributed building materials, beefed up the library through the provision of books and related scholastic materials to the school, it also provided some scholastic support with provision of shoes and clothing to the disadvantaged students of care for the African kids. Arua Casino has also supported children in different schools through mobilizing a few items from its employees and funds from the public at different collection points. Audley Limited T/A Pyramids Casino and Kampala Casino Audley casino has been sponsoring 3 students namely Brenda Abalo, Akizimana Trevar Fahim and Terry Muthoni who are in S.5 (St. Cypriano), P.7(St. Francis day and Boarding school Nansana) and Nairobi university respectively. Betin Uganda Betin sponsored the Golola Vs Lakatos Kickboxing Title fight as shown in the picture below. The fight that was held on the 8th December was Betin's springboard to establish a partnership with the University of Pain that has applied contact sport as a tool to deter the youth from engaging in crime.
