Welcome to the Virtual Blog of the 2020 Mega Month of Money tour WEEK 5 Thursday July 9th to Wednesday July 15th Trev and the late Jason Johnson - Feb 2018 Kennedy Space Centre, Cape Canaveral - Florida tour 2012 Target Ganassi Indianapolis – Month of Money 2013 Page 1 of 9 Day 29 / Thursday July 9th We didn’t visit a cheese factory while in Wisconsin. After all, you need to leave something to do when you go back. We’d had a great time over the last five days, but it was now time to depart and go back down south into Illinois. After much soul searching, the chosen route for our 337 miles, six-hour journey to Springfield was a rather lacklustre drive. Apologies to anyone reading this who lives along Interstates 43 or 39. One of America’s favourite past times is arguing with your best friend or neighbour about what route to take when you’re driving long distance somewhere. There are so many choices and options that are possible, but every one of them will have some impediment that looms large in the mind of one of the debaters, but not at all to the other one. It’s actually good fun and it used to be standard procedure (pre-GPS units) in the days when road maps were indispensable for everyone. But not if you’re Stubb, the man with a mind like a steel trap. The night before he sets out, he grabs a pen and paper and sits down at the kitchen table and stares blankly into space for about 10 minutes.

  • Finally—Winning the Indianapolis 500 — 2011
P274-283h_Motorsports3-JAN15_Lr1_qxd_P274-283h 1/20/15 12:36 PM Page 274 {}MIKE CURB : 50 Years FINALLY—WINNING THE INDIANAPOLIS 500 — 2011 “Keep the 98 car running boys.” With those impassioned words, famed race car owner J.C. Agajanian in his hospital room shortly before his death requested that his son, Cary Agajanian, and Mike Curb continue the heritage of the 98 car made famous by Parnelli Jones’ victory in the 1963 Indianapolis 500. In 2011, almost 50 years later, Mike and Cary and their No. 98 car have in spectacular style honored J.C. Agajanian’s legacy by capturing the victory in the 100th running of the most storied event in the sporting world. In addition to owning the winning car, Curb feels fortunate to have been partnered with the very talented Bryan Herta and Steve Newey. Curb Records also teamed with Big Machine and Justin Timberlake’s William Rast Jeans Company to co-sponsor the 98 car in the Centennial Indy 500, ending up in Victory Circle after a dramatic last-lap win by driver Dan Wheldon. The Indianapolis Speedway referred to Wheldon’s 2011 victory as the most important race in history. Over the course of 200 laps and 500 miles, the lead changed 23 times, with 10 different drivers in the front of the field. Wheldon had run well all day, and with only 10 laps remaining, he passed Bertrand Baguette and Scott Dixon to put himself in second position, with an opportunity to win. Rookie J.R. Hildebrand was on the way to the checkered flag when he hit the wall exiting Turn 4, allowing Wheldon to pass for the victory at Indy.

  • CHASIN the 10S RACING January February 2013
January - February The Official Newsletter of Mitch Brown Racing 2013 Edition 2013 SEASON ALREADY UNDERWAY FOR SOME CANADIAN RACERS The 2013 motorsports season here in Southern Ontario is still, for the most part, eight to ten weeks away depending on what type of racing you follow and what opening dates local tracks have posted on their websites. But hundreds of race fans and some racers from here north of the 49 th parallel have already received their first “fix” of racing excitement by traveling south to such warmer climes as Florida, Arizona and yes even Nevada beginning in February. For most, Florida was the chosen destination especially those weeks leading up to and including Speed Weeks in the Daytona Beach area where events in NASCAR’s three premier divisions –Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck series races got underway. There was definitely a lot of buzz surrounding the events at Daytona International Speedway where NASCAR’s Generation 6 car was unveiled. And certainly Danica Patrick’s pole setting run in qualifying gave North America’s most popular motorsports association a much needed boost in media coverage. Unfortunately the devastating crash in the Saturday Nationwide race involving 13 cars that led to injuries to 28 spectators was the most horrifying and questionable incident of the weekend and perhaps NASCAR’s recent history. Despite the hype surrounding events at DIS, the short tracks in and around Daytona plus the Florida Gulf Coast provided what a lot of race fans from the north were craving for …real home style racing where the action is fast, exciting and for the most part “unstaged”…no competition yellows, no mysterious debris on the track, not a lot of single file racing …just peddle to the metal scrambles in the heats and 20 to 30 lap feature events.
