(Later DIRT Motorsports) purchases the World series in the world, featuring world class drivers. Beginning in 1978, the World of Outlaws of Outlaws tour invaded racetracks and thrilled fans in 23 different states. The Outlaws will be racing 2004: The Outdoor Channel signs deal to televise 35 races for almost $6 million in purses and other prize money between the season opener at Volusia Speedway Park and the Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. 2007: Millions view the World of Outlaws “Summer of Money” on ESPN2. The series returns to Canada for the first time in 25 years. The 1st Outlaw’s World Finals are held at The Dirt 1978: Sprint car racing in the US lacked a true national series, but Ted Johnson, a former Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway midget racer organizes the World of Outlaws sanctioning body. He establishes a schedule, a set of rules and a points system to crown a champion of this series. The season features 41 2009: Cody Darrah has his 1st career World of Outlaws win at Williams Grove Speedway events with drivers Steve Kinser, Bobby Allen, Doug Wolfgang, and many others. Steve Kinser, 2011: Cody Darrah claims the 2011 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award son of future Hall-of-Famer Bob Kinser, achieves his first Outlaws “A” feature race on May 21st at Eldora Speedway. 2013: CBS Sports Network strikes a deal to air preliminary & finals night of the National Open at Williams Grove and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park during Super Dirt Week 1979: The Outlaws add tracks across the country to their schedule. 2014: CBS Sports Network broadcasts the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cup Series 1980: Steve Kinser wins his first of 12 Knoxville National titles events at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, Lincoln Speedway, William Grove Speedway and The 1981: Swindell takes the flag in 41 featured Dirt Track at Charlotte.
