It has been a wonderful experience in what was a very good year for Irish rugby. The overall background to the season was one of continued turbulence in the World economy, particularly so in Europe. The IRFU and other Unions are not immune from the effects of this. It was also a year during which there has been a change in the balance of power at International level. There is cause for concern that there may be moves to change the voting structures at IRB level which could significantly change the way the game is run to the disadvantage of the four “home’’ Nations and other tier one countries. PRESIDENT’S It is at times like this we need to cherish and promote the core values upon which rugby football is founded, above all the integrity REPORT of the game. There are real challenges ahead. My year in office will have been book-ended by visits to New Zealand, firstly in September and October 2011 for Rugby World Cup and returning in June 2012 for Ireland’s three Test summer tour.

Members Newsletter. JUNE 2020 No 1 BUCCANEERS RFC NEWS FEATURES SENIOR WOMEN’S YOUTH MINI’S The Grass is Greener… The lockdown continues to frustrate, with businesses, schools, social facilities and of course sports clubs remaining shuttered. It’s difficult, but it’s the price we all pay in the context of everything that is happening during the pandemic. Of course our first concern is for everyone directly affected by Covid 19, especially those that have experienced bereavement or serious illness. Then there are those affected through the loss of work and income; we are particularly mindful of club members and especially the staff of the club and the Bounty. As a sports club the greater part of our members are active healthy young people and we don’t underestimate the effect that confinement and social isolation has on you. It may take some time, perhaps even a long time before we get back to a semblance of normal life, but Buccaneers RFC is ready to be part of your return to normality. Hence this newsletter, as a way to stay in touch and keep you informed of what’s happening in and around your club. Your input is always welcome too.
