The Campaign for Syracuse University, which will officially launch on November 2, is an important foundation for the vision of Scholarship in Action, and the support of all alumni is key to the campaign's success. The Alumni Association, working with the Office of Alumni Relations, is focused this year on three priorities to support these efforts: Celebrating Orange, Creating and Maintaining Lifelong Connections, and En­ suring Stewardship of the Future. The first priority is to celebrate with alumni the accomplish­ ments of students, faculty, and staff at Syracuse University and the vision of Scholarship in Action. There are so many exciting things happening on campus that alumni often cannot experi­ ence. The Office of Alumni Relations, in collaboration with our alumni clubs around the country, is organizing programs to take on the road that share these exciting happenings. In addition, we are working to celebrate the accomplishments of alumni, both great and small, that continue to add to the reputation of our university. The second priority is to help create and maintain connections with all alumni and our students. Over the last several months, we have held successful "soft landing" events for recent graduates in cities around America, hosted send-offs to help welcome new students into the Syracuse family, and welcomed alumni back to campus as part of our new Homecoming+ Reunion activities. The third priority is perhaps the most important: Ensuring Stewardship of the Future. The university we all enjoyed as stu­ dents was made possible by the contributions of those alumni who came before us. It is now critical that as alumni today we ensure for future generations of Syracuse students the same outstanding experience we enjoyed. I encourage all alumni to learn more about The Campaign for Syracuse University and the vision of Scholarship in Action, and to actively contribute your time, talents, and treasure to support our university. The act ivities are part of "No Excuses University," a nationwide school initiative designed to promote high academic expectations and college readiness among children. "It helps students rea lize their potent ial and gives them an ed ucational goal. High school is not t he e nd of their educationa l journey. I realize t hese kids are on ly 7 yea rs old. However, each of them has set t he goal to attend college someday.

    The Ensley Athletic Center is the latest major facilities addition to the Lampe Athletics Complex. The $13 million building was constructed in seven months and opened in January 2015. It serves as an indoor training center for the football program, as well as other sports. A multi- million dollar gift from Cliff Ensley, a walk-on who earned a football scholarship and became a three-sport standout at Syracuse in the late 1960s, combined with major gifts from Dick and Jean Thompson, made the construction of the 87,000 square-foot practice facility possible.     Project iMPPACS – University of Pennsylvania, Emory University, Brown University, Syracuse University, University of South Carolina Study to evaluate effectiveness of a safe sex/HIV prevention media campaign aimed at African-American teenagers Audience Research Media Production Message Development Media Placement 2006-2008 Project iMPPACS was a three-year, pilot intervention study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NMIH) and executed by a consor- tium of academic institutions — University of Pennsylvania’s Dr. Michael Hennessy and Dr. Daniel Romer, University of South Carolina’s Dr. Robert Valois, Syracuse University’s Dr. Michael Carey Brown University’s Dr. Larry Brown, and Emory University’s Dr. Ralph DiClemente. The objective of the study was to measure the efficacy of a safe sex/HIV prevention media campaign targeting African American teenagers. In 2006, MEE conducted focus group research with teens in two cities as a foundation for message development. The findings were used to refine radio and TV spots that included culture-centered counter-narratives to youth beliefs about sexual behavior. In 2007, MEE developed a series of culturally-sensitive and age-appropriate messages (for African American 14-19 year olds) that promoted atti- tudes that would lead to safer sex behaviors and risk reduction for sexually-transmitted infections. MEE was responsible for all campaign media production and media placement. Radio and television ads aired in Macon, GA and Syracuse, NY. The control cities were Providence, RI and Columbia, SC. The ads for the project received several national Telly Awards that recognized excellence in video and film production. “Check Yourself,” “That was Great,” “Class of 2008" and “Relationships” all won Telly Awards in 2007 and 2008.
