Handbook Set-Up and Instructions Travel Release I give my consent for this student to represent Southern Boone County R-1 High School on activity trips without holding Southern Boone County R-1 Schools or trip sponsors responsible in case of accident or injury. Our mission is "Excellence in Learning for All," and we take that mission seriously. At Southern Boone, we will give you a top-notch education and lots of support to help you succeed in our positive, caring, and safe environment. We will offer you a challenging academic program and the tools necessary to master this curriculum. To help you reach excellence in learning, we strongly encourage the following from you: (1) show up to school every day, and be on time; (2) be an active learner, by participating in class and asking questions; (3) complete all assignments and projects on time; (4) make sure all submitted work is of high quality and is authentically yours; (5) treat others with respect and courtesy; and (6) demonstrate pride in our school by helping to take care of it. This handbook serves as a reference to help you succeed in our school. You will find important dates, procedures, policies and expectations that we expect all students to follow. Each student is given a copy of this handbook and is expected to be familiar with its contents. You will return a signed form indicating you have received the handbook and are familiar with its contents. To help meet that expectation, our teachers teach important sections to the students, and we ask all parents to review this handbook with their sons/daughters. Welcome, again, to our school. Academic Dishonesty (May also be defined as plagiarism) Academic dishonesty runs the gamut from copying homework, cheating on final exams, using unauthorized electronic devices (including, but not limited to, cell phones and computers), to plagiarizing written reports. Students and faculty share responsibility to see that high standards of academic integrity are upheld. All school work should be only the individual’s actual work. Violation may result in a loss of credit, along with further disciplinary action. Cheating on tests, assignments, projects or similar activities; plagiarism; claiming credit for another person’s work; fabrication of facts, sources, or other supporting material; unauthorized collaboration, facilitating academic dishonesty; and other misconduct related to academics can constitute academic dishonesty. Refer to the student discipline section for consequences Plagiarism is defined as Copying from another student’s work, or enabling someone else to do so. Using someone else’s (classmate or published author) words in a paper without using quotation marks. Whenever you use a key word or more than 2 words in a row from another source, you must put those borrowed words in quotation marks and cite your source. Using someone else’s (classmate or published author) ideas in a paper without giving that person credit. Academic Recognition Academic Letter: Beginning with the class of 2015, students have the opportunity to earn an academic letter by achieving a semester GPA of 3.5 or greater for any four semesters. Areas of Emphasis: Beginning with the class of 2015, students have the opportunity to achieve recognition by earning an area of emphasis in a selected program. Please see the course description guide for more details. Academic Support Academic Support is our main Tier 2 intervention, for students who need or want individual tutoring from a teacher during school hours. Boot camp and credit recovery are other components of Academic Support. Accidents/Injuries If an accident occurs at school, first aid is given as soon as possible. The home is contacted by the nurse, teacher, or principal if necessary. In a serious accident or emergency, when the parent cannot be reached, the child will be taken to the emergency room or doctor of choice listed on the enrollment health form filled out at the beginning of the year. PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING EMERGENCY NUMBERS CURRENT. 3 Assemblies School assemblies are an integral part of the curricular program. Assemblies may be used to encourage student performance, disseminate information to the student body, or to bring in outside speakers. Proper behavior is expected and enforced at all school assemblies. Students who fail to meet expectations will be subject to discipline. Attendance/Earned Credit The purpose of the Attendance and Earned Credit Policy is to encourage regular school attendance. Regular and punctual attendance is expected of each student enrolled. There is a direct relationship among attendance, grades and success in school. Our Attendance and Earned Credit Policy has established reasonable standards regarding absences, with the purpose of encouraging and supporting students toward achieving the highest possible academic success. Excessive absences, whether excused or unexcused, may affect the academic grade. An integral part of the learning experience is the interaction between students and teachers. Students who are absent from school are not able to participate in class discussions, small group activities, or class experiments. It may not be possible to make up these activities; therefore, regular attendance is an important component of the educational process. Accordingly, the ability to earn credit, especially at the secondary level, depends upon regular class attendance. Students who are absent will be required to make up all work. The following policy addresses absenteeism. Attendance will be taken every hour by teachers/office personnel. A parent/guardian will be required to contact the office to excuse the child from school. Once a student amasses 56 hours of absences in a semester, only the following will excuse an absence: Documentation from a physician Documentation from court Documentation from a funeral **Cases specifically approved by the principal in advance** Should a student amass 30 hours or more of unexcused absences in a semester, s/he would be in danger of violating the schools attendance earned credit policy, which may result in the student being awarded no credit for each class in the given semester. Part-time students need to meet with the guidance counselor and principal to discuss their attendance expectations. Procedure to Follow When Absent 1. The parents/guardians of students who are absent on any given day must either send a note or call and notify the school of such absences. Students who are absent will receive an unexcused absence until a note or telephone call is received. 2. Students with medical appointments should bring a written excuse from their doctor/dentist when they return. 3. No student is to leave school without first coming to the principal’s office for permission.

In order to place the Notice proposal to increase the nighttime power of Class IV AN stations in context, some background information is necessary. By Report and Order, FCC 58-573, Power Limitations of Class IV Stations, 17 RR 1541 (1958), released June 2, 1958, the Commission increased the maximum permissible daytime power for Class IV AM broadcast stations from 250 watts to 1 kilowatt. This action was taken in response to a petition for rule making filed April 3, 1956 by Community Broadcasters Association, Inc. ("CBA"), an organization representing Class IV AN stations. The across-the-board approach to the power increase was chosen to improve reception of these stations while maintaining their existing coverage areas. CBA also had petitioned for a power increase at night as well, but this could not then be pursued because of international treaty constraints. Recent international developments have suggested that these international restrictions against increasing nighttime power will likely be removed at an early date.
