The Inclusive Illinois, one campus, many voices initiative began in the fall of 2007 and is coordinated by the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access. Inclusive Illinois showcases the ways in which the University demonstrates its commitment; celebrates its achievements; and educates the campus and community about diversity and inclusivity. It highlights the importance of respecting the intersecting identities that faculty, staff, and students bring to campus. This is a dynamic campus environment with 69,678 students, 29,586 staff, and 5,726 faculty. With all the contributions from the campus community, we must take time to recognize and appreciate the colleges and units on our campus that enrich the Illinois Experience. Our gratitude extends to each of the Inclusive Illinois College and Unit Representatives and to our Inclusive Illinois Student Advisory Group. Through their dedicated efforts, the mission and vision of Inclusive Illinois continues to flourish. We thank you for your interest and commitment! Each person brings an individuality to their efforts that is shaped by their distinct experiences in life and provides a valuable lens to view the world and share with others. This individuality is appreciated within our classrooms, research labs, and offices. Appreciation of diversity and respect for individual differences are reflected in the rich mix of Tanya Gallagher faculty and student perspectives related to health, aging, and disability – the Dean broad topics of our college. We understand the roles of a public university and the need to serve all people of Illinois, the nation, and the world. Health, aging, and disability are experienced differently across a variety of social, cultural, and socio-demographic group characteris- tics and living conditions. AHS has a longstanding commitment to engage students, staff, and faculty across gender, race, ethnicity, disability, and socio-economic class. The expertise of our faculty and their appreciation for diversity is reflected in AHS curricula and results in a diverse student body being recruited and retained in our programs. Our faculty and staff are leaders in expanding understanding and sensitivity in an ever-changing society and our scholarship thrives due to a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty. We teach and learn from each other in a dialogue built on respect for difference and appreciation of the creative energy that such differences bring to the intellectual vitality of the campus. College of Business We know that diversity makes us stronger as a college and we are proud that we are the number one minority recruiter in the Big 10. When our students graduate, they will enter a business environment with co-workers from every walk of American life. Diversity, in all its forms, is also critically impor- tant to the central mission of this great public institution. As the largest and top-ranked engineering college for the entire American Midwest, it is imperative that the College of Engineering play a significant role in advancing the roles of women and minorities in engineering. Standing in front of the mural you can see Salem Baptist Church and Bethel A.M.E., the two oldest historically African-American churches in Champaign County, both founded before the civil war. The principal artist was Angela Rivers, who grew up in Champaign-Urbana. She was assisted by young men like L. Nolan, M. Mitchell, S. Brown and P. Caston, and a group of over 30 folks from the community including high school students and young adults. Juxtaposing the personal, political, and philosophical dimensions of the individual experience, TSDP offers a frst-person vulnerability in order to foster connection in an often alienating world. Grounded in stomps and rhythms of the feet and questions beneath the surface, TSDP embraces and fows beyond Indian aesthetics to include an unexpected, unfamiliar mosaic of dance, music, and text that invites audiences to think and feel differently. TSDP aims to create works that utilize the bharatanatyam form as a dynamic medium rather than a static representation of an ethnic culture, infusing its practice with individual, idiosyncratic impulses in service of personal voice. The company prioritizes creativity over convention and self-expression over collective storytelling, making dance that is relatable, colloquial, and relevant to our everyday existence as human beings. TSDP’s contemporary bharatanatyam work has been commissioned/presented by the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., West Wave Dance Festival in San Francisco, Drive East in New York City, the World Music Festival in Chicago, and more.

I just cannot believe how fast another year flew by and how we have stepped into a brand new year!! I still remember the day when we were going to attend our first BAGC event at Jain temple, last year and now we are at the brink of the same first event, Saraswati Puja!! Well, this year it will be held at our favorite venue, Streamwood High School on January 28 th , the Basant Panchami day as per Bengali Ponjika. Our heartfelt prayer to the goddess of learning – “Asato Maa Sadgamaya Tamaso Maa Jyotirgamaya” (Please lead us from falsehood to truth, unreal to real and darkness to light). Organizing the first event, Saraswati Puja, is always challenging for an Executive Committee, the daunting task of getting a venue for a specific day, packaging a flamboyant cultural program and catering an impeccable selection of vegetarian food to our beloved community members are just some of the highlights of many tasks. Moreover, these tasks are required to be accomplished within a month, when the team members are still getting acquainted with each other. Unquestionably, I consider myself immensely fortunate to have an excellent team. They have already positioned themselves in their bases and started managing the assigned activities in a professional manner. In the history of BAGC, 2011 will always be remembered as a milestone year for us. We got our own home, Banga Bhavan, our tangible footprint in Chicago-land.

Until now, people of Guntur, especially from the rural areas, had Sankar to travel some 300-500Km to Hyderabad or Chennai for reliable eye care. The new Sankara Eye Hospital in Guntur will have modern facilities to take care of their problems. The project construction and human resource training Foundation PCC and CR masonry are complete. All the 186 columns, presently up to plinth level will reach lintel level by 10th April and roof level by 25th April. This is going exactly according to the project plan. On the human resource front, doctors and 30 staff from Guntur, are under training at Coimbatore, will be ready to take charge even as the hospital comes up.
