From the Desk of Fr. Lino June 12, 2016 Being with God and the World

John Dunn observed that No Man is an Island. We are social beings with God’s Spirit in us. On this Monday, June 13, we celebrate the feast of St. , a who has performed outstanding miracles of every kind. We often pray to him when we have lost something and ask his help to find it.

St. Anthony was a man with a wonderful spirit sharing God’s love with us. We carry his name as Anthony, Antonio, Antonia, Tony, Tonia and so on and so forth. We believe in St. Anthony’s protection in our lives and God’s presence in our actions.

On June 14th, we celebrate Flag Day. We express unity among the people of our nation and national pride. We may say we are a secular and materialistic country, yet we affirm God’s presence in our actions to the people around us. We supply do- nations of food and money to churches. The government allows us tax breaks when we support our churches and charitable institutions. Politicians often go to the churches to speak their minds. Can we really be free of God?

Some people say they do not believe in God. However, to some extent, they do realize that the persons who believe in God, who are actually in the majority, give them help in the name of God. I have never, ever experienced a person rejecting the care of a nurse or a doctor who believes in God. For that matter, a person with faith would never reject caring for an atheist. Surely, as a Priest of God, I have been told to leave; however, when I asked my God fearing specialist doctor if he was ever rejected by patients, he said never.

There is evil in the world. If it were not for God acting through good people, we could destroy each other and the world itself with the weapons we have. But our God given spirit does not allow us to do such drastic acts! Even if there were very few people who are bent on destruction, there are other good natured people who would unite to overpower those who are not with God and the World.
