This fishing tournament is complete with a scoreboard, helpful staff, a cleanup station, and, of course, lemonade. We also provide the poles and bait. Every child will walk away with a fish trophy and, most likely, a fish tale of their own. Great for children ages 3-14! LASER BATTLE Fun for your whole team! The teams will be trained by Laser Battle staff to help build teamwork and group dynamics. 5 6 TEAM BUILDING EVENTS POWER BOAT POKER RUN Come experience an event like no other! • How to Play Bocce Ball
LAWN GAMES ON MACKINAC ISLAND HOW TO PLAY BOCCE BALL Mackinac Island in many ways looks just as it did in the late 1800s. Just as there were no automobiles then, there are no cars on Mackinac Island now. Just as soldiers manned Fort Mackinac then, costumed interpreters manage the historic stronghold now. And just as guests enjoyed leisurely lawn games at Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel then, they spend relaxing afternoons playing those same games on the lawn at the stately resort now. One classic lawn game that was popular in the late 19th century and remains a favorite pastime of Mackinac Island visitors today is bocce ball. While bocce at the highest levels is played on regulation courts with specific dimensions, the open spaces of grass outside Grand Hotel and Mission Point Resort are ideal for casual games. Bocce is a great game for a laid-back afternoon because you don’t have to be an amazing athlete or furious competitor to be successful and have fun. Bocce is a team game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. It’s no wonder that forms of bocce have been played for thousands of years! In fact, there’s evidence that bocce was played in ancient Egypt and that it later became popular in the Roman Empire. Bocce as it is played today was formalized in Italy and brought to America by Italian immigrants in the 19th century, around the time that Mackinac Island was evolving into a tourist destination. Now that you have a little bocce Bocce games involve two teams of one to four players each.

  • History and Rules for Medieval Ground and Table Billiards by THL Aurddeilen-Ap-Robet
Original Published October 2013; Updated March 2017 History and Rules for Medieval Ground and Table Billiards by THL Aurddeilen-ap-Robet A Brief History of the Game The Modern game of Billiards (originally called “Port and King”) is generally regarded to have evolved into an indoor game from outdoor stick-and-ball lawn games such as Jeu de mail, Paille-maille, Trucco, Croquet, Golf, and the stick-less game of Bocce. The first literary mention of a form of the word "billiards" appears in Edmund Spenser's Mother Hubberd's Tale in 1591, where he speaks of "all thriftless games that may be found ... with dice, with cards, with billiards". The word "billiard" may have evolved from the French word billart or billette, meaning "stick", in reference to the mace, an implement similar to a golf club. The term billiard may have also originated from the French word bille, meaning "ball". A form of billiards was played outdoors in the 1340s, and was reminiscent of croquet in that it used hoops and pins. King Louis XI of France had the first known indoor billiard table constructed in the 15th Century. Louis XIV further refined and popularized the game, and it swiftly spread amongst the French nobility. While the game had long been played on the ground, this version appears to have died out in the 17th century, in favor of croquet, golf, and various bowling games.
