Storm Clouds on the Oceanii by W.H. Miller

Verse 1 Struggling through the storms of life, CHORUS Struggling day by day, Verse 3 Who's going to take you by the hand, Overcome by pain and strife When you're wandering in the storm? Sometimes we lose our way. Who's going to help you understand, CHORUS There's storm clouds on the ocean, And keep you safe and warm? Tornadoes out on the prairie. CHORUS This world will lose its motion, friends, Before God proves false to thee. Verse 4 It's not so much God asks of you, To help your storm clouds cease: Verse 2 Bitter winds and biting rain, Love your neighbor as yourself And lightning flashing high. And seek eternal peace. Stumbling then while fighting pain, We often wonder why. REPEAT CHORUS TWICE WELCOME The Rev. ANTIPHON Your throne, O God en –du–res for ev –er and ev –er and ev –er (Your)

My heart is stirring with a noble song; let me recite what I have fashioned for the king; my tongue shall be the pen of a skilled writer. You are the fairest of men; grace flows from your lips, because God has blessed you for ever.

ANTIPHON Your throne, O God, endures for ever and ever, your royal scepter is a scepter of equity; You love righteousness and hate iniquity. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellows. All your garments are fragrant with myrrh, aloes, and cassia, and the music of strings from ivory palaces makes you glad. Kings' daughters stand among the ladies of the court; on your right hand is the queen, adorned with the gold of Ophir.

FIRST READING Song of Solomon 2:8-13 Reader A Reading from the Song of Solomon. The voice of my beloved! Look, he comes, leaping upon the mountains, bounding over the hills. My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Look, there he stands behind our wall, gazing in at the windows, looking through the lattice. My beloved speaks and says to me: "Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away; for now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree puts forth its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away." Reader The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God. GOSPEL HYMN They’ll Know We Are Christians By Our Loveiv P. CHORUS And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love, Yes, they’ll know we are Christians by our love. Verse 3 All praise to the Father, from whom all things come, And all praise to Christ Jesus, His only Son, And all praise to the Spirit, who makes us one.

CHORUS THE GOSPEL Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23 Gospel Reader The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. People Glory to you, Lord Christ. When the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around him, they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with defiled hands, that is, without washing them. (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they thoroughly wash their hands, thus observing the tradition of the elders; and they do not eat anything from the market unless they wash it; and there are also many other traditions that they observe, the washing of cups, pots, and bronze kettles.) So the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?” He said to them, “Isaiah prophesied rightly about you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.’ You abandon the commandment of God and hold to human tradition.” Then he called the crowd again and said to them, “Listen to me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside a person that by going in can defile, but the things that come out are what defile.” For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” The Gospel of the Lord People Praise to you, Lord Christ. Children four and older attending in person are invited to follow Godly Play leaders for an interactive Bible story in the labyrinth by the chapel. They will return in time for communion. SERMON The Reverend Catherine Amy Kropp TRANSITIONAL MUSIC This Little Light of Minev Anonymous Verse 1 This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. Verse 2 Won't let Satan blow it out, I'm gonna let it shine. (3x) Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. Page 7 of 13

Verse 3 Hide it under a bushel? No! I'm gonna let it shine. (3x) Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. Verse 4 Let it shine 'til Jesus comes, I'm gonna let it shine. (3x) Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. Repeat first verse AFFIRMATION OF FAITH ANZP, p. 481 As able, all stand and say together You, O God, are supreme and holy. You create our world and give us life. Your purpose overarches everything we do. You have always been with us. You are God. You, O God, are infinitely generous, good beyond all measure. You empower us to be your gospel in the world. You reconcile and heal; you overcome death. You are our God. We worship you.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVINGvi EOW, p. 60; NZPB, p. 162 Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give our thanks and praise. The Celebrant continues We praise you and we bless you, holy and gracious God, source of life abundant. Page 8 of 13

From before time you made ready the creation. Your Spirit moved over the deep and brought all things into being: sun, moon, and stars; earth, winds, and waters; and every living thing. You made us in your image, and taught us to walk in your ways. But we rebelled against you, and wandered far away; and yet, as a good mother cares for her children, you would not forget us. Time and again you called us to live in the fullness of your love. And so this day we join with Saints and Angels in the chorus of praise that rings through eternity, lifting our voices to magnify you as we sing:

Glory and honor and praise to you, holy and living God. To deliver us from the power of sin and death and to reveal the riches of your grace, you looked with favor upon Mary, your willing servant, that she might conceive and bear a son, Jesus the holy child of God. Living among us, Jesus loved us. He broke bread with outcasts and sinners, healed the sick, and proclaimed good news to the poor. He yearned to draw all the world to himself yet we were heedless of his call to walk in love. Then, the time came for him to complete upon the cross Page 9 of 13

the sacrifice of his life, and to be glorified by you. On the night before he died for us, Jesus was at table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, and said: “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”  As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine. Again, he gave thanks to you, gave it to them, and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” Now gathered at your table, O God of all creation, and remembering Christ, crucified and risen, who was and is and is to come, we offer to you our gifts of bread and wine, and ourselves, a living sacrifice. Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe your Spirit over the whole earth and make us your new creation, the Body of Christ given for the world you have made. We pray for the hungry and the overfed May we have enough. For the mourners and the mockers May we laugh together. For the victims and the oppressors May we share power wisely. For the peacemakers and the warmongers May clear truth and stern love lead us to harmony. For the unemployed and the overworked May our impress on the earth be kindly and creative. For the troubled and the sleek May we live together as wounded healers. For the homeless and the cosseted May our homes be simple, warm and welcoming. Page 10 of 13

For – ______. (Here the People offer prayer requests, using the Zoom or Facebook chat box, or texting to (509) 433-7369). For the vibrant and the dying May we all die to live. For all who have died in the peace of Christ, and those whose faith is known to you alone; bring them into the place of eternal joy and light. And in the fullness of time bring us, from every tribe and language and people and nation, to feast at the banquet prepared from the foundation of the world. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. AMEN. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray, singing: Page 11 of 13

COMMUNION HYMN Not Here for High and Holy Thingsvii Hymnal #9 Verse 1 Not here for high and holy things Verse 4 Awake, awake to love and work! we render thanks to thee, The lark is in the sky, but for the common things of earth, the fields are wet with diamond dew, the purple pageantry the worlds awake to cry of dawning and of dying days, their blessings on the Lord of life, the splendor of the sea, as he goes meekly by. Verse 2 the royal robes of autumn moors, Verse 5 Come, let thy voice be one with theirs, the golden gates of spring, shout with their shout of praise; the velvet of soft summer nights, see how the giant sun soars up, the silver glistering great lord of years and days! of all the million million stars, So let the love of Jesus come the silent song they sing, and set thy soul ablaze, Verse 3 of faith and hope and love undimmed, Verse 6 to give and give, and give again, undying still through death, what God hath given thee; the resurrection of the world, to spend thyself nor count the cost; what time there comes the breath to serve right gloriously of dawn that rustles through the trees, the God who gave all worlds that are, and that clear voice that saith: and all that are to be. Page 12 of 13

As members of the Kingdom.

CHORUS Stand and be counted! Before that mighty throne, Stand and be counted! You do not stand alone. Stand and be counted! Our voices now we raise, Stand and be counted! A hymn of joy and praise.
