Production Management Sydney Theatre Company is seeking an experienced Production Manager for a two year contract commencing late 2018 which could be extended to four years. STC is prepared to support Visa application. About the company Sydney Theatre Company (STC) has been a major force in the Australian cultural landscape since its establishment in 1978. It is Australia’s largest theatre company presenting an annual season to an audience of over 315,000. STC has presented work in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States of America. It is the state theatre company of New South Wales, and is recognised as one of the world’s most exciting and original theatre companies. The Company presents an annual season of around 15 productions across four harbour side theatres; Wharf 1 and Wharf 2 Theatres and Roslyn Packer Theatre in Walsh Bay, and as a resident theatre company of the Sydney Opera House. Our current Artistic Director is Kip Williams, who was appointed in 2016. The Season of plays is announced each September for the following year. In mid-2018 a two year renewal of the company’s home at the Wharf will be undertaken, including two brand new theatres, workshops, rehearsal facilities and administration. During this time company operations will be relocated to Fox Studios in Moore Park. STC has a proud heritage as a creative hub and incubator for Australian theatre and theatre-makers, developing and producing eclectic Australian works, interpretations of classic repertoire and great international writing. STC strives to create theatre experiences of the highest standard that consistently illuminate, entertain and challenge, and that reflect Sydney’s distinctive personality and engage broad audiences. The theatre careers of many of Australia's internationally renowned artists have been launched and fostered at STC, including Benedict Andrews, Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Toni Collette, Judy Davis, Mel Gibson, Richard Roxburgh and Hugo Weaving. STC is assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, by its arts funding and advisory body, and by the New South Wales Government through Arts NSW. The Role Production Managers at STC works alongside other Production Managers and the Director, Technical and Production to manage an allocation of STC’s productions and co-productions, normally 3 - 4 productions per year. The Production Manager works with creative teams achieve their artistic vision and production values to the highest possible standards within the parameters set by the company. The Production Manager has responsibility for the realisation of all the technical and design elements of a production and ensures the most effective utilisation of people, resources and systems within the agreed budget, schedule and parameters. The Production Manager ensures that accurate and timely information is provided to the Senior Management Team so that they can make appropriate and informed decisions about STC Productions. UK_ProdMan_Brief 2018 The Key Attributes Minimum of seven years relevant industry experience within a producing theatre company or experience making, creating and managing shows from ground up. Excellent leadership skills with a proven ability to lead teams and manage people. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Excellent negotiation skills with a creative and pragmatic approach to problem solving. Excellent project management skills with a logical and analytical approach to planning and the allocation of resources. The ability to remain calm, professional and positive under pressure. A self-starter with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. A natural collaborator who enjoys working as part of a team. A keen interest in the performing arts and an appreciation of theatre, especially in an Australian context. A sympathetic approach to theatre design and aesthetics. A good eye for detail and quality control to ensure that all elements of a production are produced to the highest standards. Extensive knowledge of theatre practices, terminology, etiquette and theatre craft. Excellent knowledge and practical experience of set design and construction. Good knowledge of rigging, stage automation, lighting, sound and projection. Good knowledge of theatrical costume and props. Strong financial management skills with a proven ability to manage and control large budgets. A high level of understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation and procedures as related to the theatre and entertainment industries with proven experience of implementing these requirements in a sympathetic manner. Experience of touring productions domestically and internationally. Strong computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD.
