Is the Minister aware that country and decentralized industries, particularly those in the engineering field, are having great difficulty in remaining viable owing to freight rates on steel? Does the Minister realize that the recent 7 per cent increase in freight rates means an increase of 14 per cent to those industries which have to cover both inwards and outwards freight? Will the Minister confer with the appropriate Minister in another place with the object of exempting or relieving decentralized industry from the recent increase? The Hon. D. P.     Australasian Mercy Secondary School Association Fostering Mercy Spirituality and Ethos NEWSLETTER MARCH 2016 HOME ABOUT RESOURCES OUR SCHOOLS NEWS CONTACTS AMSSA Report The AMSSA Executive met on Saturday 20 February in Melbourne to develop an action plan for the Association’s work next two years. It was a very productive meeting. We spent some time mapping the AMSSA landscape including identifying the governance structures and the heritage of member schools. With the latter we focused on whether schools had one of more congregational heritages. What became clear from our mapping exercise was that about 33% of member schools are owned directly or through a corporate structure by the Sisters of Mercy. Another 14% are formally aliated with a Mercy Network such as the Mercy 5 or MEL. A further 30% are not formally aliated but have single heritage in Mercy. The remainder of schools have more than one heritage usually because they have been formed through amalgamation of two or more schools. This information together with feedback from the survey conducted by our Executive Ocer Kitty Guerin at the end of last year assisted the Executive to shape their work over the next two years. We wanted to identify what we could oer that was not available to those with close Mercy connections and further what services we were placed to oer because of the breadth of our network. The Executive conrmed two major areas for 2016/2017 Continuing the program of sta and student conferences. AMSSA is able to provide this service to schools because of the size of the membership.

    OLMsCene Semester 1, 2019 From the Principal Celebrating 130 years of OLMC This is a very significant year for both the Parramatta Sisters of Mercy and for the community of Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta as we come together to celebrate our 130th anniversary. In December 1888 our pioneering Sisters, led by Mother Mary Clare Dunphy, arrived on the shores of Sydney from Callan, Ireland and ventured out to Parramatta by train to create a new congregation to assist the sick, the infirmed, the marginalised, the women in the asylums and to begin a ministry of education. We can be truly thankful for their courage, commitment to their faith, and their Irish tenacity which helped to create a wonderful legacy for our community. The proposal involves the demolition of the multi-level, harbour facing portion and part of the High Street portion of the Torpedo Factory building in order to provide additional public space for community use and amenity as part of the greater adaption of the site. The aims and visions for Sub Base Platypus are outlined in the Management Plan: Platypus, North Sydney (2016) and the amended Draft Management Plan: Platypus, North Sydney (2020), which incorporates the current proposal. Sub Base Platypus, North Sydney (Platypus) is a former gas works (1877-1932), torpedo factory (1942-1999) and submarine base (1967-1999), that is now under the care and management of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust (The Harbour Trust), a Commonwealth government agency. Today, Sub Base Platypus functions in part as a public park with buildings and facilities adapted for a range of cultural, recreational, community and commercial uses, with car parking.
