Doors and

At Parson’s Green Nursery we know that the and stairs within the may pose a risk of injury to the children. We therefor have implemented set procedures to mitigate these risks as follows.

Doors.

1. All doors at the nursery have been fitted with hinge guards to prevent the risk of children trapping their fingers in closing doors.

2. Coloured gaffer tape is placed on the a meter away from each in each classroom this provides children with a point of reference when lining up to leave the classroom and ensures they do not stand to close to the door which places them at risk of being hit by adults entering the classroom.

3. Children are taught to stand behind this line for their own safety and that adults should be the ones to open the door in order to keep them safe.

4. All doors have been fitted with glass panels so that adults entering and exiting can see children standing on the other side of the door before opening it.

Stairs.

1. When taking children up and down stairs staff are positioned at equal intervals between children.

2. Children’s ability to walk independently is assessed and staff hold the hands of children who require the most support.

3. A is fitted at the top of the main stair case for extra security. Signs are placed on the gate to make sure parents and teachers keep this closed at all times.
