RAJA Respected seniors and colleagues, I wish you all a Merry State President, IMA TNSB Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Pongal. I thank you all Cell: 98427 27277 whole heartedly for electing me and installed me as the 66th State [email protected] President of prestigious. IMA Tamil Nadu State Branch. The 74th State Annual Conference held at Erode on 14th & 15th December 2019, I take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your participation and contribution. My sincere thanks to the entire organizing team of Erode TIMACON 2019 headed by Dr. P. Jayanthkumar Organizing Chairman & Dr. Mailer Chakravarthi Organizing Secretary. I extend my thanks to National President Elect Dr. Rajan Sharma and Immediate. Past National President Dr. Ravi Wankhedhar for their participation at the installation ceremony. The conference was inaurgurated by the former Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India and former Governor of Kerala Honourable Justice Thiru. P. Sathasivam. I feel it is a great honour. I thank Dr. T. S. Swathi Rethnavathi, Director of Medical and Rural Health Services and Dr. G. S. Gomathi, Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services for having participated as Guests of Honour. I sincerely thank immediate past president Dr. S. Kanagasabhapathy, Immediate Past State Secretary, Dr. B. Sridhar, Treasurer. Dr. S. Palanivelrajan for their commitment and contribution to the welfare of our members. They have done a commendable job, during the difficult and turbulent period and I hope they will continue their services to our IMA. I expect and I wish my new team especially Dr. A. K. Ravikumar, State Secretary, Dr N R T Thyagarajan treasurer, Dr. G. Kothanda Raman, Dr. K. Rajasekar, Dr. M Subramanian, Dr. P. Lenin Vice Presidents would give all the efforts sincerely to uplift IMA TNSB to greater hights. In this juncture I seek everybody’s support. I request all the branches to complete the election process within a month and send the new office bearers list at the earliest to the state office for effective communication. This year we have rolled out four projects namely CODE – Hear the Ear, Congenital Deafness detection in Early age, Earthly - Early detection of thyroid disorders in young, Health and Hygiene – Clubs in schools, IMA Task Force. I expect the branches to implement and gain the good relationship with the patients and public. The details would be sent to you from State office. Membership: We are No.2 in the country. We need to induct more members especially Women Doctors and Junior Doctors. We have envisaged plans for this. We also have launched Patient redressal forum and Disciplinary committee. All the standing committees are asked to start their effective work immediately. This would be reviewed periodically. Our plans would be: 1. To increase the membership of AMS to from 1200 to 2000. 2. To liaise with Professional Speciality associations like CSI, ASI, API, IOA and other organisations and have meaningful collaborations with them for imparting skills program and CHAIRMAN workshops for IMA members and to reach out to all the medical Prof. Dr. V. KANNAN preclinical / para clinical / clinical both broad specialty and super M.S., (SURGERY) specialty and have more hands on workshop / CME at the local MGMCRI, Puducherry branch level and convey the message to all doctors through message or email. 7. Various digital initiatives (planning stage): We will have repository – of important procedures / diagnostic / surgeries which can be seen by all doctors. You tube channel – exclusive for the IMA doctors for their updating of scientific content shall be created.

So, the present study was focused on the impact of leachate percolation on ground water quality. Leachate and ground water samples were collected from Vellakal Dump site and the surrounding areas. The leachate and ground water samples were tested for various physiochemical parameters and heavy metals. The heavy metals tested in the groundwater shows Fe and Pb in places nearer to dumpsite. The result of the test and interpolated maps of parameters shows that there is a high concentration of TDS, Total hardness,Ca2+ ,Mg2+ ,Cl- present in all collected ground water samples. And the western side of dumping site is highly affected by leachate intrusion. This indicates that the Figure1. Study area map groundwater is affected by leachate percolation and further the groundwater is undesirable for domestic water supply and Avaniapuram is a municipality in Madurai district on the other uses.The results shows that there is a need of landfill state of Tamil Nadu, India. As of 2011, the town had a liner in the Vellakal dumping site.

It is the second largest city in terms of area and the third largest in terms of population in the state. Despite this, the city’s population and economy is shrinking. In 2010, the city’s boundary expanded to cover the entire urban agglomeration. But even after 9 years of integration, differences exist between the newly merged areas and the old city. The spatial division in provision of basic services coupled with the characteristics of a shrinking city has posed fundamental challenges in the path of sustainable development. This article discusses the development of Madurai city with regard to its history, demography, economy, health and education infrastructure. It also offers insights into the unique challenges faced by the city and discusses the policy implications for reversal of the retardation of the city to that of holistic progress.
