Instead of holding the line, or even matching the supposed current rate of infl a- tion (3-5%, depending on what numbers you believe), the price of standard basic cable service where we live (ComcastLand), spiked in excess of 10%! Up and down the line, prices for the service increased not by just a few percentage points. I don’t think I have to remind a single reader of this publication of the general cost-of-living trend. We at MCW are not immune to these increased costs, fees, add-ons, whether it be the costs of production, the costs of printing, or the costs of postage (you do remember the 2007 postage rate increase, don’t you? That defi nitely had an impact here). Despite all of this, somehow, we’ve managed to run a tight ship here at MCW. While some publications have curtailed their publishing schedules or even disap- peared, we’ve been able to continue to serve the movie poster collecting hobby on a regular schedule without missing a beat, and more importantly, without gouging the very customers who put us here in the fi rst place. I am proud to say that we’ve held the line on advertising rates for an incred- ible TEN YEARS... and going into 2008, I am even prouder to announce that once again, for the eleventh year in a row, our ad rates remain the same! This isn’t to say that forthcoming economic conditions won’t warrant a price hike, but as long as we can continue to cut costs and deliver the goods, we’re keeping the prices right where they were in late 1997. As usual, it is through your support that we’re able to maintain MCW, and for that I express my gratitude! DR. V, our resident horror/sci-fi writer and collector, is taking the month off. He is deep in the underground catacombs of his laboratory, concocting a bombshell interview and feature of, shall we say, a real bombshell! Watch the next issue of MCW for the return of our fi endish friend. In October, 1996, MCW #509 featured Steven Russell’s cover story, “Raintree County Revisited.” Now, a dozen years later, Mr. Russell has revised and updated the ‘Raintree County’ story to celebrate the saga’s 50th Anniversary, which occurred in the fall of 2007. And collector Bernie Bubnis has profi led a true collector in Bob Pickell in “The East Side Kid from New Egypt, New Jersey.” I hope this article hits home with you, no matter what collecting preference you enjoy. – Brian Bukantis, Publisher 4 • MOVIE COLLECTOR’S WORLD • #716 MOVIE POSTERS BOUGHT AND SOLD FILMPOSTERS.COM I am a collector, NOT a dealer.
