......................................................................................................... 41 I can do it all again — Bob Dylan 2013 page 4 of 49 1 INTRODUCTION Yet another busy year for Bob Dylan. No less than three art exhibitions, one in Milan and two in London. The Never-Ending tour hit North America in the Spring and Summer and Europe in the autumn. No new album but two major record releases all the same, the 10th volume of the Bootleg Series, Another Self Portrait and then the the career spanning box The Complete Album Collection Vol. One consisting of all regular Bob Dylan album releases and two discs with maerial from Greatest Hits and Biograph, all in all 47 CDs! During the last days of the year Sony Music again rushed out an extremely limited release in Europe with recordings from 1963 to extend their copyright ownership, this time on 6 vinyl LPs. 2 2013 AT A GLANCE I can do it all again — Bob Dylan 2013 page 5 of 49 3 THE 2013 CALENDAR 5 February Art exhibition of 23 new and previously unseen paintings by Bob Dylan, The New Orleans Series opens at Palazzo Reale, Milan, Italy. It remained open until10 March. 27 March Paul Williams, author of many books on Bob Dylan and founder of the first journal of serious rock music criticism, “Crawdaddy”, dies. 5 April This year’s first tour starts in Buffalo, New York. The tour covers mainly the East of US. This show features First live performance of What Good Am I? since St. Herblain, France, 1 July 2010. 6 April The setlist played at the next show in Amherst, Massachusetts turns out to be a template for the shows during this tour. Exactly the same setlist was used in 12 more shows and only slight variations were used in the other shows. 20 April On Record Store Day Columbia releases a vinyl single with two tracks from the forthcoming Bootleg Series Vol. 10. See also section 4.3. 5 May After 22 concerts the Spring tour ends in St. Augustine, Florida. 15 May Bob Dylan is inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters, marking the first time a musician has been chosen as an honorary member for the prestigious award. "I feel extremely honored and very lucky to be included in this pantheon of great individual artists who comprise the Academy of Arts and Letters," Dylan, who was unable to attend the induction in person, said in a statement read at the ceremony. "I look forward to meeting all of you some time soon." 4 June Bob Dylan is nominated for France's top distinction, the Legion d'Honneur, an award previously given to Sir Paul McCartney. 26 June A Summer tour called AmericanaramA Festival Of Music starts in West Palm Beach, Florida. Duquesne Whistle is played live for the first time and is now added to the setlist which remains pretty static also during this tour. For more info on this tour please refer to section 5.5.4. 27 June Bob Dylan is inducted into the Berlin Academy of Arts, in the category of film & media instead of music. 30 June

  • Tell-Tale Signs - Edgar Allan Poe and Bob Dylan: Towards a Model of Intertextuality
ATLANTIS. Journal of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies. 31.2 (December 2009): 41–56 ISSN 0210-6124 Tell-Tale Signs - Edgar Allan Poe and Bob Dylan: Towards a Model of Intertextuality Christopher Rollason Metz, France [email protected] This article shows how the poetry and prose of Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) cast a long shadow over the work of America’s greatest living songwriter, Bob Dylan (1941-). The work of both artists straddles the dividing-line between ‘high’ and ‘mass’ culture by pertaining to both: read through Poe, Dylan’s work may be seen as a significant manifestation of American Gothic. It is further suggested, in the context of nineteenth- century and contemporary debates on alleged ‘plagiarism’, that the textual strategy of ‘embedded’ quotation, as employed by both Poe and Dylan, points up the need today for an open and inclusive model of intertextuality.

STICKNEY ON THE INTERSECTION BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS AND DOMESTIC MENTAL DISABILITY LAW Michael L. Perlin* INTRODUCTION Wyatt v. Stickney' is the most important institutional rights case liti- gated in the history of domestic mental disability law.2 It spawned copycat litigation in multiple federal district courts and state superior courts ;3 it led directly to the creation of Patients' Bills of Rights in most states;4 and it inspired the creation of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act,' the Mental Health Systems Act Bill of Rights,6 and the federally-funded Protection and Advocacy System.7 Its direct influence on the development of the right-to-treatment doctrine abated after the Su- preme Court's disinclination, in its 1982 decision in Youngberg v. Romeo,8 to find that right to be constitutionally mandated, but its historic role as a beacon and inspiration has never truly faded.

  • Tell Tale Signs
I don't know anybody who's made a record that sounds decent in the past 20 years, really. You listen to these modern records, they're atrocious, they have sound all over them. There's no definition of nothing, no vocal, no nothing,… remember when that Napster guy came up across, it was like, ‘Everybody’s gettin’ music for free.’ I was like, ‘Well, why not? It ain’t worth nothing anyway. Bob Dylan 2006 A compilation of bits and Bobs from last 30 years? That'll be $129.99. Sony 2008 --- Introduction: I wrote this very soon after the release of Tell Tale Signs. Although I was presuming ISIS would be delayed in order to allow a more considered take on the release, my own work commitments demanded an early response in any case. I have presented it as a dialogue that highlights – if not exaggerates – trends I have felt in myself and in discussions amongst Dylan fans at large. I have taken the liberty of framing the dialogue in a setting plagiarised brazenly from a classic as Bob does with many an out of copyright source as Dylan Cynic would say or, if you are aligned to Dylan Enthusiast rather than Dylan Cynic, the framework of the dialogue alludes intriguingly to a past literary master in much the same way Dylan binds his own work artistically to Ovid in Modern Times. I won’t mention the play it comes from as the fun is surely always in the searching and then deciding if it is just rip-off or a deeply thought allusion that adds to the whole.

Typiske sanglyriske trekk skal fremheves – ikke minst sangstemmen og andre orallitterære særtrekk.
