LIST of REGISTRABLE BASIC MEDICAL QUALIFICATIONS (Effective from 1 Jan 2020) SINGAPORE MEDICAL COUNCIL LIST OF REGISTRABLE BASIC MEDICAL QUALIFICATIONS (Effective from 1 Jan 2020) IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. One of the criteria for Provisional and Conditional registration with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) is a ‘Primary Qualification' from one of the following medical schools. 2. Only the medical programme from the listed medical schools at the time of addition to the Schedule is recognised. Any subsequent significant changes to the medical curriculum of the listed medical school may not be recognised, e.g. GCE Advanced level or Baccalaureate level entry to a Graduate entry programme. 3. Only the campus that was in existence at the time of addition to the Schedule will be recognised. Any new campus that is off-site from the recognised main campus, whether in the same country or a different country and whether the same degree is granted or not, will not be recognised by the SMC. 4. For twinning programmes, doctors must have undergone the entire duration of their clinical training and final examinations in a medical school listed in the Schedule, before they can be considered for provisional or conditional registration in Singapore. Graduates from the Malaysian, US and Canadian medical schools on the schedule must have undergone the entire medical training on the main campuses of the respective medical schools – i.e. both pre-clinical and clinical for eligibility for registration with SMC. 5. Graduates from recognised medical schools listed in the Schedule must pass the relevant national licensing examinations in the listed country, e.g. in the USA medical graduates must pass the USMLE and in Canada, they must pass the MCCQE to be registered to practise in Singapore. For any country that imposes such national licensing conditions on its own medical graduates, the corresponding conditions will also be required for registration to practise in Singapore. 6. Every application for medical registration will be considered based on its own merits. 7. The Singapore Medical Council (SMC) would like to highlight that International Medical Graduates who do not hold qualifications which are recognised by the SMC, will not be eligible to apply for medical registration to practise in Singapore. This applies to all applicants. 8. SMC strongly advise all interested applicants to ensure that they fulfil all necessary criteria, including but not limited to, holding a qualification which is listed on the Second Schedule of the Medical Registration Act (Cap 174) or a registrable postgraduate medical qualification recognised by the SMC. CONTACT US Information on registration of medical practitioners in Singapore is available online. For any queries on universities recognised by the Council, please email SMC Secretariat at [email protected] SINGAPORE MEDICAL COUNCIL LIST OF REGISTRABLE BASIC MEDICAL QUALIFICATIONS (Effective from 1 Jan 2020) Primary Year of Country Body Granting Qualifications Qualifications Addition Australia 1. The Charles Perkins Centre: a new model for tackling chronic disease Stephen J. Simpson The University of Sydney Page 1 Like all animals, humans have evolved to minimize energy expenditure and maximize accessibility to safe and palatable food The University of Sydney Page 2 We have built a world that meets our ancestral ‘heart’s desire’ … and is killing us • Food production and supply systems maximize the qualities missing in our ancestral environments. • Cities, homes and workplaces designed to allow minimal energy expenditure. • Economic systems are designed to value wealth over health. • Companies that sell us what we want prosper; even if that means selling us foods that degrade health. • Prevention is better than cure, yet makes little profit or garners votes in the short term. The University of Sydney Page 3 Why is a University well placed to offer solutions? • Endless source of clever young people at their peak of creativity • Huge multidisciplinary potential – a one-stop-shop • But need to break down disciplinary silos to gain depth and breadth The University of Sydney Page 4 What was CPC asked to deliver for the University? • Bring University together across its disciplines and locations and collocate critical research mass to address this major societal problem • Build new collaborative, multi-disciplinary research and education with impact • Design, build and populate the CPC Research and Education Hub The University of Sydney Page 5 And for society - our mission: To ease the burden of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and related conditions by generating collaborative research and education that translates into real-world solutions “…health of the nation and its children is inextricably linked to a complex web of influences...” (National Academy of Science, Accelerating Progress in Obesity Prevention: Solving the Weight of the Nation).
