IIMillion Dollar Babies" and the National ~--- 11 "L7S~"11 .l~1147 My concern in what follows will be with the family as "national treasure." Taking the event of Million Dollar Babies, a made-far-TV movie (1994) about the Dionne quints-world-famous for being the first quintuplets to survive more than a couple of days -I will investigate the "family rama" that surrounded the birth of the French-Canadian sisters in the 1930s as well as its repre sentation in the 1990s. That investigation will be informed by two main points. A first line of questioning addresses how the quints served as an emblem of the commodification of femininity in the representation of the Canadian nation; a second line of investigation offers a critical stance from which to interrogate the cultural links between sexuality and colonialism and women's role as breeders of the nation within this narrative. Million Dollar Babies: A stunt? Why another movie about the quints sixty years after their birth? Cinema already has its share with three Hollywood films produced by Twentieth Century Fox1 and miles of newsreel shot by Pathe. Media and magazine covers have displayed over 100,000 pictures of the famous darlings and advertising campaigns for a multitude of commodities including Carnation Milk, Colgate's Dental Cream, and Remington typewriters have used their image. Finally, the Dionne quints are no longer five, but three -The Dionne Trio. After a pile of scientific, popular and academic papers have been written about them, and a recent special issue of the Journal of Canadian Studies2 was entirely devoted to their sixtieth anniversary, the made-for-TV movie came as the icing on the cele bratory cake of this "classic of Canadian history" (as the network voice-over proclaimed at each commercial break).

Un giorno il padre dice loro che debbono iniziare un lungo viaggio attraverso la Francia per sfuggire alla cattura. Non dovranno mai ammettere, per nessun motivo, di essere ebrei. IL REGISTA Christian Duguay nasce il 30 novembre del 1957 a Outremont, Montreal. Si laurea presso la Scuola di Cinema della Concordia University e inizia la sua carriera come operatore di montaggio e direttore della fotografia. Debutta nei primi anni '80 con la serie televisiva I viaggiatori delle tenebre e successivamente nella serie francese sulle avventure di Guglielmo Tell, Crossbow. Nel 1991 dirige il sequel del noto film Scanners, Scanners 2 - Il nuovo ordine, dove il celebre David Cronenberg, in questa occasione svolge il ruolo di sceneggiatore. L'anno successivo lavora alla realizzazione del film I dinamitardi, con Pierce Brosnan e Ben Cross. Il vero esordio però avviene nel 1995, quando viene presentato al Toronto International Film Festival Screamers - urla dallo spazio, film di fantascienza liberamente ispirato al racconto di Philip K. Dick Modello Due. Nel 1996 dirige la tanto acclamata miniserie Million Dollar Babies, in onda sulla CBS, con cui si aggiudica il Gemini Award come miglior regista. Duguay da allora guadagna consensi come regista di film e come USCITA CINEMA direttore televisivo in Canada, Stati Uniti e all'estero. Dirige il thriller The Assignment - L'incarico (1997) e in 18 gennaio 2018 seguito lavora alla miniserie televisiva Giovanna d'Arco con cui viene candidato a 12 Emmy Awards e GENERE quattro Golden Globes, in entrambe le candidature come Migliore Miniserie e Miglior Regista.

Christian Duguay Bio 1 CHRISTIAN DUGUAY DIRECTOR/PRODUCER/WRITER BIOGRAPHY Canadian director Christian Duguay made his debut in the early 1980s on television series such as The Hitchhiker and William Tell before graduating to feature films. While living in Los Angeles, he directed The Assignment, a Sony Picture Entertainment production starring Ben Kingsley, Aidan Quinn and Donald Sutherland, and Screamers, an adaptation of the novel by P.K. Dick, released by Columbia Pictures. Later features include The Art of War, starring Wesley Snipes, released by Warner Brothers, which was a box office success in the US and became the highest grossing Canadian film of 2000, as well as Extreme Ops, starring Rupert Graves and Rufus Sewell and Boot Camp, the story of the unregulated billion-dollar industry of tough love/boot camp rehabilitation centres in the U.S. In between features Christian has kept one foot firmly in television miniseries, and it is these that have cemented his reputation. His version of Joan of Arc, starring Leelee Sobieski, Peter O’Toole and Shirley MacLaine, enjoyed strong ratings for CBS and was an enormous success, with 13 Emmy Award nominations including Outstanding Directing for a Mini-Series or Movie, Outstanding Mini-Series and 4 nominations at the Golden Globe Awards. From competition to competition, the pair improved and began to make their mark on the showjumping world. But the Los Angeles Olympic Games were a disaster for them, and Pierre had to face up to his shortcomings. With the help of his wife Nadia and groom Raphaëlle, Pierre regained Jappeloup’s confidence and built a relationship that took them to victory in the Seoul Olympics in 1988. Daarin vertelt Joseph hoe hij als 11-jarige joodse jongen in Frankrijk de Tweede Wereldoorlog overleefde. De jonge joodse Joseph ontvlucht samen met zijn oudere broer Maurice het door de Nazi’s bezette Parijs om het vrije deel van Frankrijk (Vichy-Frankrijk) te bereiken. De jongens zijn op zichzelf aangewezen en weten dankzij een ongelofelijke dosis moed en vindingrijkheid te ontsnappen naar Nice. De Duitsers trekken echter verder op en de veiligheid blijkt van korte duur. De jongens zullen alles op alles moeten zetten om hun afkomst te verbergen. Hun intense band en de hoop op hereniging met hun ouders en grote broers houden hen staande. Samen kunnen ze de wereld aan.
