recorded yet another day of record infection today

 Thailand’s efforts to control the 3rd wave seems to be stretched and the country continues to struggle with the Thai public health system being put to its limit with hospital beds scarce and morgue space even more scarce.

 Besides doctors, nurses, and hospital administrators who are being stretched thin, forensic technicians have also been pushed to their breaking point. Technicians and forensic doctors are required to determine whether a patient died of Covid-19 or other causes.

 Cold storage trucks are now being used to keep bodies.

 Warning from Dr. Manoon Leechawengwong, a specialist in respiratory diseases at Vichaiyut Hospital

 On his personal Facebook, Dr Manoon said that the next 100-days would be the most crucial one for Thailand as infection numbers are set to continue to rise.

 He said that

 In the next 100 days, the number of real cases of COVID-19 in Thailand may increase to 35 million, half of the country will be infected.

 An additional 30,000 deaths

 That the only way to reduce the number of critically ill patients and reduce the number of deaths is to accelerate the injection as soon as possible within the next 100 days, not waiting until the end of this year or early next year.

 Thailand needs to blanket inoculation process by injecting AstraZeneca vaccine for another 40-45 million people with at least 1st dose.

 There is some good news for people in Chonburi

 It seems as though Chonburi’s Sriracha hospital has come out to say that they will give Pfizer to those who are registered with he hospital can register starting today to get the vaccine.

 Those eligible for the vaccine are people with the 6-disease, old age and also Thailand’s 1st for children between age 12-18 as well.

 Phanatnikhom Hospital is also offering Pfizer donated by the United States to those who are 60-years or more.

 But has to be from the region.

 They will also allow pregnant to walk-in and also for 12-18 years of age.

 Children who are suffering from various disease will be eligible to get the vaccine starting tomorrow.

 Banbung hospital is also offering the vaccine for children  Those who are obese, down syndrome, and other diseases.

 Despite all this the number of people in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) continues to rise and so does the number of people on ventilators (life support).

 As of yesterday there were 5,495 people infected with the virus and 1,103 on ventilators.

 As for testing. The government has decided to withhold going ahead with planned procurement of antigen test kit (ATK) that was withdrawn from the United States for being sub-par quality.  LEPU, which the government of Prayut had ordered 8.5 million test kits with just about 1 billion baht has been put on the shelf for now after outcry from the general public on why the government was importing sub-par quality test kits.

 Ostland Capital, that is the importer of the sub-par ATK test kit from China is set to announce its stance at 15:00 hrs.  Krungthep Thurakij laid out the list of owners and directors of Ostland Capital with Isarum Sriyingyong as one of the main people.

Inoculation Drive

 The inoculation drive has been picking up pace with August 11th data showing that as many as 501,288 doses of 1st & 2nd dose were administer

 Apart from this 3rd dose was 69.577 doses of Pfizer and AstraZeneca.  The data for August 2021 inoculation are as follows.

 As for the inoculation up until now.  Total inoculation has been 21.89 million or 21.89%

 In the next 142-days until December 31st the government has a target to inoculate another 78.11 million doses or about 550,037 dose per day.

 This also means that the plans to open the country by October 14th 2021 as per his announcement on nationalized television on June 16th looks next to impossible in the next 61 days.

 It is reported that at present the list of ministers who are most likely to face the no- confidence debate are four people namely

 Saksiam Chidchob, Minister of Transport, on the case of lack of transparency in bidding for the North-Isan Railway Project and alleged ethical issues linked to the 3rd wave of COVID-19 outbreak.

 Today Sudarat Keyuraphan, the head of the Thai Sang Thai Party, posted on her personal Facebook page that she would go to the court after having collected as many as 700,000 signatures to file a lawsuit against General Prayut and his administration for mismanagement and their inability to control the 3rd wave of Covid-19 outbreak.

 Sudarat has been on a campaign to collect the signatures for more than a week.

 There has been a continued clashes between the protestors and authorities over the past few days.

 Protest and clashes have taken place on  August 7th  August 10th  August 11th

 The protest movement that took place on August 11 by ThaluFah group has announced that it will hold another protest today starting at 15:00 hrs onwards.

 The previous protest on August 11 saw crackdown by the authorities and arrest followed immediately. The more radical group of ThaluFah went on a destructive approach and went around burning police vans as they marched towards General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s residence in the 1st military infantry division on Vibhavadee Rangsit road.

 Apart from August 13th protest, there is the call for the August 15th protest under ‘Car Mob’ which will also be ‘Car Park’. This was announced by former Red Shirt leader – Nattawut Saikua on August 10th.

 The planned ‘Car Mob’ will involve singing and hyde park speeches.

 The aim is to have ‘Car Park’ (Car Mob) protest all across the country to showcase that this was not just a Bangkok focused protest.

 To help Nattawut’s group which was protesting in Bangkok, some nearby provinces such as Ayuthaya have said that they will drive from their province into Bangkok on August 15th.

 Wednesday, August 11th protest saw Worawan Sae-aung or Pa Pao, an out spoken elderly protester, was arrested at the Victory Monument.

 The momentum for Pa Pao was so strong that Twitter was trending with #saveป้าเป้า

 Protestors were down on their knees begging not to hurt the protestors while police did what they always do.

 As for the mob rally on August 11, officials arrested 17 people, including two 15-year- old youths, while 11 police officers were injured, 8 government vehicles were damaged, a traffic booth and a traffic light control cabinet were damaged by 12.

 Krumanit Sangpoom, MP for Surin, as deputy chairman of the committee of the police, the House of Representatives said that the police commission will invite the Commissioner of the National Police Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and related persons including the protesters Find a common solution to control the assembly and use of use of arm and chemical and tear gas including asking for the disclosure of the Prime Minister's order to control this rally.

 The government has come out to say that there is a shortage of eggs and is now being rationed at no more than 2 trays per customer.

 Kirida Phaophichit Research Director International Economic Policy and Development Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) revealed that at this time, the state should accelerate measures to support employment for SMEs to reduce business liquidation or lay off workers.

 Danaidej Ketsuwan, Chief Financial Officer of SCG Packaging Plc (SCGP), disclosed the progress of mergers and acquisitions in 2 projects, namely the 75% stake in PT Indonesia Dirtajaya Aneka Industries Box, PT Bahana Buana Box and PT Rapipack Asritama (Intan Group) to expand the paper packaging business in Indonesia and an 85% stake in Deltalab S.L., Spain to expand the global medical device business.

 The deals are expected to close within Q3/21. In 2020, Intan has a revenue of 3 billion baht, while Deltalab has a revenue of 2.8 billion baht.
