Think Volunteering, Think JVN JVN connects volunteers to volunteering opportunities. Working with over 300 Jewish and non-Jewish charities and community organisations, we can help find you the right opportunity where you can give back to the community by doing something that matches your interests, puts your skills to good use and gives you exciting new experiences. On the next few pages you will find some of the current volunteering opportunities we have available. On Sunday 5th June from 10am-12:30pm, Colin Stodel and Michelle Vogel will be running a clinic at Bushey Synagogue promoting the work of JVN. Etgar – Inter-Faith Quiz volunteers, July 5th 2016 This year the annual inter-school quiz will be at Wembley stadium and the biggest ever!!! We expect over 800 children to attend from schools across the UK. We require 20 helpers from 9am to 5pm to help run this exciting event. You will assist with setting up at the venue, steward the children and teachers as they arrive, help serve lunch and tea, hand out and collect in quiz question and answer sheets, and clear up during and after the event. We hope you will also help them to create a buzzing atmosphere and look after any VIP guests. We will also need some help at the office in West Hampstead in June, a few hours a week, in the run-up to the quiz. If this is something you might be interested in, please let us know. Location: Wembley Stadium and West Hampstead Age limit: Volunteers of any age Time Commitment: Between 3 and 8 hours ______ Unity in the Community – Barnet Inter-Faith Festival, Monday 29th August (Bank Holiday) The Barnet Multi Faith Forum is organising a festival celebrating the best of what the Borough has to offer. It will be held at Allianz Park, home of the reigning English Rugby Champions the Saracens and focal point of the community. This will be a family-friendly, fun-filled day for all - but we need your help to make it a success. We're looking to create a team of enthusiastic volunteers to ensure that the marketplace, workshops, performance areas, sports activities and more all run like clockwork. Roles include: Meeting and greeting Marshalling Assisting with sports activities Stage management Performance tech crew. Maybe you'll even get to dress up in a costume and entertain the punters! We're looking for you to commit to a shift on the day: 8am-3pm; and/or 3pm-10pm. You will also need to attend a briefing beforehand (TBA). Want to gain skills useful for a career in the third sector? Tzedek are looking for two passionate and enthusiastic interns to support our education and fundraising departments and to become part of the Tzedek family. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to become fully involved with every aspect of Tzedek’s work, spending three months gaining valuable skills and experiences within a busy and growing charity. The internship is for three days a week for a minimum of three months from October 2015. Tzedek is the UK Jewish community’s response to extreme poverty. They work with some of the poorest communities in Sub-Saharan Africa and India, providing direct support to help local people so they can help themselves, regardless of their race or religion. Tzedek also educates all sectors of the Jewish community on issues of global poverty and helps to raise awareness of issues with the developing world. Location: Marylebone, London W1 Days: Mondays-Fridays morning and afternoons Emunah – Emunah on Ebay Volunteer If you have an hour a week free (or more) we need help supporting Emunah’s growing Ebay operation. Help list items for sale each week, working in a friendly office or from home at a time convenient to you! Training given - basic computer literacy essential and knowledge of Ebay would help. A knowledge of the retail trade is useful, and an interest in collectables – but not essential. Accuracy and initiative in listing is key to this role! The group will allow clients to be more active and have fun with gentle dance and movement to music. As a Hub session Worker, you will teach basic dance steps and moves to a range of clients and encourage them to become more active and improve their fitness. Hours required Tuesday 2.00pm to 3.00pm or from 3.00pm to 4.00pm. Location: Edgware, London HA8 Age limit: Volunteers aged 18 or over Days: Tuesdays, 2-3pm or 3-4pm Coffee Club Volunteer We are looking for a volunteer to support clients at their popular Edgware Coffee Club, a community based event which brings people together in an everyday environment to socialise over a cup of coffee (or tea!). The Coffee Club helps people to make use of facilities in their local community by creating a safe environment with familiar faces. You will chat to clients and help to get the drinks. Location: Edgware, London HA8 Age limit: Volunteers aged 18 or over Hours per week: 2 hours Availability: Regular, weekly commitment Days: Monday-Friday mornings and afternoons Additional opportunity: Jami is currently looking for volunteers to work at their Martin B. This will allow clients to access all their services. We are looking for warm, compassionate individuals who are willing to be flexible as this is ad-hoc. Location: North West London Age limit: Volunteers aged 17 or over, with a driving license Days: Monday-Thursday mornings and afternoon and Friday mornings British Friends of Reuth – Event Support Do you want to be part of an exciting charity? Do you want to use your skills for a worthy cause? If so we need you! We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated, organised people to join the British Friends of Reuth. You will be joining a great group of people who range in age and work in different fields. They organise fantastic events, such as film premieres, garden parties and fun runs for all ages. We need people to help with the organisation of these events from inception to completion. They meet once every 4 – 6 weeks in the evening or daytime. Previous experience on another charity is an advantage, however not a prerequisite. The British Friends of Reuth supports the work of Reuth in Israel, specifically at the state-of- the art Reuth Rehabilitation Medical Centre. The Centre helps people of all ages, colour, religion and nationality, who have lost their physical abilities, independence, and dignity. Reuth treats every patient with passion and compassion, by rebuilding their lives and dignity as human beings. You will be regularly available on Thursday afternoons 3.45 - 5.15pm and you will take the register, help the chef get ingredients out, help children and parents with cookery and help clear up. Dates are 31 March, 7 and 14 April, 12 May – 30 June. Cookery with families is a joy. Location: JW3 Age limit: Volunteers aged 14 or over Hours per week: About 2 hours Availability: Regular Days: Thursdays 3:30-5:30pm approx. JNF- Blue Box Road Collector JNF UK is seeking volunteers to help with the distribution and collection of their iconic Blue Box on the road in which you live. It’s something which you could do when time permits (once every couple of months). All you need to do is knock on the doors of your road with Mezuzot and see if they need their Blue Box collected, or if they would like a Blue Box. For over a century, money collected in the JNF UK Blue Box has assisted Zionist pioneers in their efforts to build the infrastructure of a modern, thriving state in Eretz Israel. JNF UK is proud to maintain this tradition into the present. Money collected in our Blue Boxes funds their vital work in the Negev, where together with their partners; they are working to secure Israel’s future.
