Presents JENNIFER LOPEZ Jennifer Lynn Lopez (born July 24, 1969), often nicknamed J.Lo, is an American actress, singer, record producer, dancer, fashion designer and television producer. She is the richest person of Latin American descent in Hollywood according to Forbes, and the most influential Hispanic entertainer in the U.S. according to People en Español's list of "100 Most Influential Hispanics". She parlayed her media fame into a fashion line and various perfumes with her celebrity endorsement. Outside of her work in the entertainment industry, Lopez advocates human rights, vaccinations and is a supporter of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Jennifer is beautiful and interesting. From four years old she performs for the family. Sometimes she is a singer. Sometimes she is a dancer or a movie star. She loves the movie West Side Story. She watches it one hundred times. In West Side Story, Rita Moreno plays Anita. For Jennifer, Rita is America's number one actress and dancer. "I'd like to be her," Jennifer thinks. At five, Jennifer goes to a school of theater and dance. In a short time, she can sing, act, and dance very well. "But is this important?" David and Guadalupe ask. They have good jobs. They want to see Jennifer in a good job, too. For this, schoolwork is very important. CHAPTER TWO Jennifer the Dancer In 1975, Jennifer goes to the Holy Family Catholic School in New York. Before her hiatus, she had a string of flop movies, a single that didn’t crack the Billboard Top 10, and an American Music Award downshift from favorite pop/rock female artist in 2003 to the more niche favorite Latin artist in 2007. Oh, and her record label just dropped her. Now the 40-year-old star is calibrating a comeback that has included guest appearances on “How I Met Your Mother,” “Saturday Night Live” and reportedly an upcoming episode of “Glee,” all to support her romantic comedy “The Back-Up Plan,” opening Friday. And in the meantime, with businesses encompassing everything from music to movies to a clothing line to a Cuban restaurant, she’s the ninth-richest woman in entertainment, says Forbes magazine, which in 2007 estimated her net worth at $110 million. Holding Allies Accountable Abstract Artists, including Rihanna, Cardi B, and Jay-Z, have turned down the NFL’s offer to perform in the halftime show out of solidarity with Colin Kaepernick , but it was recently announced that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be performing in 2020. This has sparked controversy because some are celebrating that there are two Latinas headlining the Super Bowl halftime show for the first time while others do not view this event as a cause for celebration because they believe that J. Lo and Shakira should have boycotted like other artists have. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira have given no prior indications that they stand with Colin Kaepernick, so there should not have been an expectation from them to reject the NFL’s offer.

But what happens when we turn a critical eye toward the messages cloaked within this supposedly feminist missive? A close examination of popular music associated with girl empowerment reveals that many of the messages found within these lyrics are frighteningly just as damaging as the misogynistic, violent, and explicitly sexual ones found in the usual fare of top 100 Hits.
