Gayatri Associate professor, Vishwa Vishwani School of Business, Department of Business Administration, Boston House, Thumkunta, Hakimpet, Hyderabad, India ABSTRACT In recent times, women's entrepreneurship has become important for the creation of new jobs and contributions to the economic and social growth of society. The main aim of the research paper is to find the operational challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in Hyderabad, Telangana state, India. Additionally, this research paper identifies the major determinants contributing to a female’s decision to be an entrepreneur. In this research paper, a total of 300 women entrepreneurs are selected using a random sampling approach to investigate the economic performance in small- scale industries. Here, the primary data is collected from a questionnaire that includes information such as a source of finance, incentives and tariff availed, background variable, capital investment, concessions, rebate, use of labour, product mix, marketing, consumption of raw materials, plans, perception, etc. The research findings show that the women entrepreneurs in Hyderabad face operational challenges such as marketing of products/services, multiple levies/taxes, family problems, gender inequality, infrastructure, finance, lack of skilled employees, and source of raw materials. INTRODUCTION In highly populated countries like India, entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in contributing to economic growth. In this scenario, the entrepreneurs serve as catalysts in the process of economic growth and industrialization [1-2]. The entrepreneurs are a key ingredient of the http://iaeme.com/Home/journal/IJM 503 [email protected] Operational Challenges and Success Factors behind Women Entrepreneurs in Hyderabad city, Telangana State, India society, those who help in the development of new enterprises/industries, which significantly helps to improve the country’s economy [3]. The entrepreneurs perform a mediating role between a single operating unit and larger societies [4]. In industrial development, entrepreneurship has special significance in the context of economic development of socio- cultural, and socio-economic climate in both developing and developed countries [5-6]. Entrepreneurship development among women solves the issues of underemployment and unemployment, increases the gross national product per capita income, and positively affects the equitable distribution of wealth and income [7]. Women entrepreneurship is considered an important determinant for the industrial and economic growth of a country or any particular region. The entrepreneurial performance varies from society to society, which depends on material resources, responsiveness of the socio-political system, and the industrial climate [8- 10]. Women entrepreneurship comprises of result-oriented activities such as determining objective, collecting fund, deciding the form of business, idea screening, idea generation, preparing prospects, innovation, controlling, administration, analyzing product, undertaking risk, promoting business, supervision, coordination, leadership, nurturing men, etc. [11-13]. In this research paper, Hyderabad is considered to analyze the performance of women entrepreneurs, because it is one of the main business centers of India which has vast potential for women entrepreneurs for establishing an enterprise and developing entrepreneurship. This research study concentrates on the medium-scale women entrepreneurs in Hyderabad city, Telangana State, India. This paper is prepared as follows. Some recent papers on the topic “women entrepreneurship” are reviewed in Section 2. The description of the research study and the collected data are indicated in Section 3. The simulation results of this research study are denoted in Section 4. The conclusion of the present research is indicated in Section 5. 2. LITERATURE SURVEY Goel and Madan, [14] developed a cause and effect relationship to understand the performance of financial inclusion approaches in women entrepreneurship. Here, women entrepreneurship was a dependent variable, whereas financial inclusion effort was an independent variable. In this study, 250 women entrepreneurs were considered to investigate the effect of financial inclusion, and other factors such as entrepreneurial motivation, the intention of entrepreneurial women, benchmarking, and family circumstance. Among the 250 women entrepreneurs, 125 women entrepreneurs were registered to the banks of Dehradun and Haridwar districts in Uttarakhand, and the remaining 125 entrepreneurs belonged to the self-help group. The experimental outcomes of this study confirm that financial inclusion had a significant impact on women entrepreneurship. Nieva [15] has focused on the strategic measures and challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia. The literature study determined that the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs were regulatory frameworks, financing, and technical support. The strategic measures recommended in this study were tax and regulation, coordinated support, entrepreneurship culture, education and training, and access to funding to improve social entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia. Katre, [16] has investigated the nature of affective experiences in women entrepreneurship to overcome issues such as stimulate entrepreneurship and socio-cultural constraints. In this study, an interpretative analysis was carried out on the women entrepreneurs, who managed and owned crafts businesses in Bihar state, India. Additionally, Zainuddin, et al, [17] explored the challenges faced by Bumiputera’s women in social entrepreneurship. In the literature study, it was determined that there were four challenges: social network, economy, environment, and experience in social entrepreneurship. In this literature, 30 Bumiputera’s women entrepreneurs were selected for experimental investigation. The research result reveals that the above-stated http://iaeme.com/Home/journal/IJM 504 [email protected] A.P. Gayatri challenges were no longer a hindrance to success in the business world. Sarfaraz, et al, [18] investigated women entrepreneurial activity, and gender-related economic development to analyze the relationship between the rate of female entrepreneurship and gender equality. The literature study analyzed different stages of women's entrepreneurial activity and the relationship between gender-related development indices. Experimental outcomes confirmed that the female entrepreneurial activity did not have a high correlation with gender equality. Bastian, et al, [19] analyzed the challenges, motivations, characteristics, and obstacles of female entrepreneurship in the Middle East and North African regions. The experimental results confirmed that the narrative review and gender awareness were superior in women entrepreneurship. This literature study evaluates the areas that received better research attention and were still under development. Further, Sefer, [20] developed a class and gender-based sensitive system for analyzing women entrepreneurship in Turkey by concentrating on the women’s agricultural co-operatives. The agricultural co-operatives were considered as bottom to top organizations for integrating the economy and women as entrepreneurs. This literature work tackles the contradictory situation and offers an alternative research system on the viability of women’s agricultural co-operatives in Turkey. Several research works have been undertaken at a regional and national levels regarding entrepreneurship. Generally, the existing research studies highlight the contribution towards national income, quality of entrepreneurs, need for entrepreneurship, problems confronted, etc. There are some research works developed at a regional level that addressed the concerns faced by the women entrepreneurs such as income generation, employment potential, government measures, asset creation, etc. Additionally, there are few research studies, undertaken at the firm level that focused only on product category or a particular industry. As seen in the literature review section, a few research works have concentrated on the issues of women entrepreneurs in metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, etc. By far, no empirical study and evaluations were performed on the prospects of entrepreneurs in Hyderabad city, Telangana State, India. Hyderabad is one of the mega metropolitan cities in the state of Telangana, India. Therefore, an attempt is carried out in this research paper for analyzing the problems, and prospects faced by the women entrepreneurs in

View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Research Papers in Economics Working Paper No. 60 September 2004 Impact of Urban Growth on Water Bodies The Case of Hyderabad C. Ramachandraiah Sheela Prasad CENTRE FOR ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL STUDIES Begumpet, Hyderabad-500016 1 Impact of Urban Growth on Water Bodies The Case of Hyderabad C. Ramachandraiah* Sheela Prasad** Abstract Being located in the Deccan Plateau region, Hyderabad city has been dotted with a number of lakes, which formed very important component of its physical environment. With the increasing control of the State and private agencies over the years, and rapid urban sprawl of the city, many of the water bodies have been totally lost. Many have been shrunk in size while the waters of several lakes got polluted with the discharge of untreated domestic and industrial effluents. This study makes an attempt to analyse the transformation of common property resources (the lakes) into private property. The adverse consequences of the loss of water bodies are felt in the steep decline in water table and the resultant water crisis in several areas. Further, the severity of flooding that was witnessed in August 2000 was also due to a reduction in the carrying capacity of lakes and water channels. The State has not bothered to either implement the existing laws or pay attention to the suggestions of environmental organisations in this regard. The paper argues that in this process of loss of water bodies in Hyderabad, the State is as much responsible as private agencies in terms of the policies that it has formulated and the lack of ensuring legislation and implementation.
