You must be trustworthy able to listen and have a commitment to equality diversity and human rights. IMB Bronzefield Chair Alison Keightley said: “Joining an IMB is a unique experience and a great opportunity to make a positive difference. As the eyes and ears of the public it’s our

www.sloughgetinvolved.org.uk job to know what’s going on in the prison and we get involved in all areas. It’s demanding and rewarding where no two days are the same. For example you might find yourself helping a new arrival find their feet monitoring educational opportunities carrying out a survey on homelessness on release or listening to comments about the quality of the food. Last year we dealt with more than written 600 applications from prisoners all of which were important to the individual prisoner. But we’re not a soft-touch – we make up our own minds about whether something is fair and decent and speak out when something isn’t right. We are a friendly and hard-working group - although the role may look daunting at first you will get all the support you need to play your part”. If a person with a disability or their carer or medical practitioner identifies the need for a piece of equipment which no one makes then Remap will. Our service is free to the user. When allocated a job our volunteer will visit the client to understand the problem. He will then return home design and make the aid in his own workshop and give it to the client. The volunteer needs to have the ability and skill to understand a problem and then design and make the solution. The ability to come up with an original concept is vital no one comes to us with a readymade design! It would suit a skilled DIYer model maker or craftsman with a workshop at home. The timing and duration of the work is entirely in the control of the volunteer. Although most of our volunteers are retired we have three who also work full time. This work will appeal to anyone who enjoys solving problems and making things.
