ORANGE IS the NEW BLACK Casting Nomination Scene Selections Episode 3 ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK Casting Nomination Scene Selections Episode 3 - Hugs Can Be Deceiving Clip 1: • Start: 16:09 Vee and Red see each other, walk toward each other • Finish: 14:10 two shot of Vee and Red standing next to each other after Red's line, "ambitious and bullshit but nice" • Synopsis: Red and Vee see each other from opposite ends of the hall—it is clear these two have history. They walk toward each other, staring the other down the whole time. They finally come together and embrace. They catch up and we learn that Vee and Red have been here together before, but they feel much older now. • Characters: RED (Kate Mulgrew), VEE (Lorraine Toussaint) Clip 2 • Start: 14:05 shot of Crazy Eyes graduation • Finish: 9:42 ends on Piper turning around to see Vee has influence over Crazy Eyes • Synopsis: We see Suzanne’s (Crazy Eyes) parents and sister giving her a pep-talk before she is supposed to sing at her high school graduation. She freezes onstage and begins to hit herself. We cut to the Christmas pageant, where Suzanne also freezes onstage, and is rescued by Norma and the rest of the ladies. We see her leave the auditorium, high on the Christmas spirit, but she runs into Maritza and Flaca who then make fun of the way she hit herself when she froze onstage, which triggers the memories of her mother pushing her to do things when she was younger. She snaps and runs outside and in a daze attacks Piper (who is in the midst of attacking Pennsatucky), taking out her anger towards her mother. We return to the present, where Suzanne apologizes to Piper for hitting her. Piper explains that she isn’t mad because Suzanne actually saved her because she made it look like a fair fight with Pennsatucky. Piper explains how grateful she is to a confused Suzannae, who then refuses Piper’s offer to see that night’s movie together because of Vee’s encouraging look from the dorm. Piper seems to recognize the influence that Vee now has over Crazy Eyes. • Characters: SUZANNE “CRAZY EYES” WARREN (Uzo Aduba), DENNIS WARREN (Dylan Chalfy), PAT WARREN (Erin Davie), 13 YEAR-OLD GRACE (Merceds Griffeth), RENEE (Brigid Brady ), TAYSTEE (Danielle Brooks), MARITZA (Diane Gurrero), FLACA (Jackie Cruz), NORMA (Annie Golden), LORNA (Yael Stone), JANAE (Vicky Jeudy), POUSSEY (Samira Wiley), ANITA (Lin Tucci), WEEPING WOMAN (Tamara Torres), MISS ROSA (Barbara Rosenblat), PIPER (Taylor Schilling), PENNSATUCKY (Taryn Manning), VEE (Lorraine Toussaint) Episode 9 – 40 Oz. of Furlough Clip 1 • Start: 19:48 Poussey comes up to Taystee "Yo" • Finish: 16:39 "that's the truth" • Synopsis: Poussey tries to convince Taystee that Vee is bad news and selling drugs. Taystee explains that Vee is her family and she cannot turn on her. Poussey tries to get Tasytee to see whom she considers closer family: Vee or herself. Taystee doesn’t want to play the game and she warns Poussey not to get in Vee’s way—or hers. Then, Pennsatucky meets with Healy about her anger issues and she tearfully begs him not to send her to SHU. Mr. Healy connects with Pennsatucky because he has had his own anger issues and instead of punishing her, he sets up a weekly counseling session so that they can talk. • Characters: TAYSTEE (Danielle Brooks), POUSSEY (Samira Wiley), PENNSATUCKY (Tayrn Manning), SAM HEALY (Michael Harney) Clip 2 • Start: 16:37 "maybe they're late" • Finish: 13:29 the women toast • Synopsis: Red invites her “family” to the greenhouse for a dinner she has prepared for them with help from the Golden Girls. She wants to apologize to them all. Gina is still skeptical of Red, while Big Boo seems to notice Red’s tunnel under the floorboards. Red apologizes to Gina specifically for the accident that left her physically burned and tells the group she’s willing to let the group become a democracy—as opposed to it’s previous state as a dictatorship—if it means she can have her family back. She apologizes to Norma and tells her that she is her best friends. They all make a toast to staying together • Characters: RED (Kate Mulgrew ), FRIEDA (Dale Soules), IRMA (Yvette Freeman), TASLITZ (Judith Robets) , NICKY (Natasha Lyonne), GINA (Abigail Savage), NORMA (Annie Golden), SISTER INGALLS (Beth Fowler), YOGA JONES (Constance Shulmab), LORNA (Yael Stone), BIG BOO (Lea DeLaria) Episode 13 – We Have Manners. We’re Polite. • Start: 10:54 Healy walking down the hall with feds • Finish: 1:44 Young Ms. Rosa driving away free • Synopsis: Healy and the SIS Agents try to locate Vee in the dorms, but they cannot find her—Black Cindy, Poussey, Janae, Sophia and Taystee all look conercned. Frieda seals up the tunnel in the greenhouse, but only after Vee has escaped through it and now runs through the woods. Nicky and Big Boo try to move the stolen heroin so they can get Vee caught with it, but the alarm sounds and they drop to the floor. The ladies in the kitchen, Dayanara, Maria, Maritza, Norma, Aleida, Gloria, Blanca, are all laying on the floor when Bennet comes to check on them and tells them the alarm is sounding because Vee is missing—Norma and Gloria smile to one another, assuming their spell to get rid of her has worked. Lorna, Ford and Miss Rosa arrive back at camp to the chaos of the alarm, Ford leaves the inmates in the van to check on things. Kowalski discovers Nicky and Big Boo on the floor of the laundry room and tells them that an inmate is missing—he sends them back to their bunks for count, Nicky has a hard time leaving the heroin. Maxwell and Bell tell their dorm that the facility is officially on lockdown. Alex is startled in her apartment and, thinking that Kubra’s men are after her, pulls her gun on the man who enters. That man turns out to be her landlord, who has only opened the door because her parole officer, who is with him, has asked him to. Alex knows she’s in deep trouble. Donaldson is giving his dorm the same information about the lockdown—everyone has to remain in their bunks until further notice. Piper retrieves all her letters from Alex, delighting in the fact that she knows her plan will work and Alex will soon be back at Litchfield with her. We see all the girls in their bunks, doing what they do: Sophia does another inmates hair, Poussey reads a magazine while Janae exercises, Taystee gossips with Black Cindy and her bunkmate, and finally we come upon Crazy Eyes, crying over the deck of Uno cards Vee left her—she is suffering, thinking she let Vee down. While Ford is gone, Lorna decides to give Miss Rosa the van, so that she can escape Litchfield and die in peace. Miss Rosa escapes in the van, with Ford and Lorna running after her. Caputo walks Sister Ingalls out to call off the nuns who are protesting for her, but is interrupted when the van barrels by them— O’Neill scatters the nuns away from the barrier just in time for Miss Rosa to crash through it, to the outside world. Miss Rosa is free—and Caputo looks on, knowing he is in hot water now that he is the new assistant warden. Vee runs through the woods, trying to find her way to civilization. Miss Rosa is cruising down the road, she turns on the radio, rolls down the window—and then spots Vee in the distance. In a split second decision, Miss Rosa hits (and kills) Vee with the van, noting, “always so rude, that one.” As she drives away, to her peace and freedom, we see a glimpse of Young Rosa behind the wheel, happy and carefree. • Characters: HEALY (Michael Harney), SIS AGENT BLAU (Daniel Sauli), SIS AGENT SPINER (Skipp Sudduth) , BLACK CINDY (Adrienne C Moore), POUSSEY (Samira Wiley), JANAE (Vicky Jeudy), SOPHIA (Laverne Cox), TAYSTEE (Danielle Brooks), FRIEDA (Dale Soules), VEE (Lorraine Toussaint), NICKY (Natasha Lyonne), BIG BOO (Lea DeLaria), DAYANARA (Dascha Polanco), MARIA (Jessica Pimentel), MARITZA (Diane Gurrero), NORMA (Annie Golden), ALEIDA (Elizabeth Rodriguez), GLORIA (Selenis Leyva), BLANCA (Laura Gomez), BENNETT (Matt McGorry), LORNA (Yael Stone), FORD (Germar Terrell Gardner), MISS ROSA (Barbara Rosenblat), KOWALSKI (Hamilton Clancy) , MAXWELL (Lolita Foster), BELL (Catherine Curtin), ALEX (Laura Prepon), SHADY JAY THE SUPER (Steven Boyer), DAVID CROCKETT (Joe Caniano) , DONALDSON (Brendan Burke), GALLEGO (Alan R. Publication Date: September 4, 2018 Media Contact: Diane Levinson, Publicity [email protected] 212.354.8840 x248 The Endings Photographic Stories of Love, Loss, Heartbreak, and Beginning Again By Caitlin Cronenberg and Jessica Ennis • Foreword by Mary Harron 11 x 8 in, 136pp, Hardcover, Photographs throughout ISBN 978‐1‐4521‐5568‐5, $29.95 Featuring some of today’s most celebrated actresses, including Julianne Moore, Alison Pill, and Imogen Poots, the photographic vignettes in The Endings capture female characters in the throes of emotional transformation. Photographer Caitlin Cronenberg and art director Jessica Ennis created stories of heartbreak, relationship endings, and new beginnings—fictional but often inspired by real life—and set out to convey the raw emotions that are exposed in these most vulnerable states. Cronenberg and Ennis collaborated with each actress to develop a character, build the world she inhabits, and then photograph her as she lived the role before the camera. Patricia Clarkson depicts a woman meeting her younger lover in the campus library—even though they both know the relationship has been over since before it even began. Juno Temple portrays a broken‐hearted woman who engages in reckless and self‐destructive behavior to numb the sadness she feels. Keira Knightley ritualistically cleanses herself and her home after the death of her great love. Also featured are Jennifer Jason Leigh, Danielle Brooks, Tessa Thompson, Noomi Rapace, and many more. These intimate images combine the lush beauty and rich details of fashion photographs with the drama and narrative energy of film stills. Telling stories of sadness, loneliness, anger, relief, rebirth, freedom, and happiness, they are about relationship endings, but they are also about beginnings.

Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes. During this period, Netflix adapted DVD distribution to the Internet, revolutionizing the way viewers receive, watch, and choose content, and built a brand reputation on consumer-centric innovation.
