Holmen Highlights Hello Students and Families, This school year has certainly been marked by change. Finishing this school year with in-person learning and holding each of our end-of-the-year events is our goal. We are experiencing some adversity lately and we must work together and remain vigilant with our mitigation strategies. We are excited to host our first ever outdoor Prom on our school grounds on May 22nd from 7-11pm. A double coronation has been planned for our current senior class along with our junior class. Let’s work together to ensure we have a memorable night for our students. Midshipman Ryan Chapman, HHS Alum Class of 2015, and the first ever Black Brigade Command- er, Sydney Barber shared challenging work they have been doing re- garding equity and inclusion as well as a student alliance at the US NA- VAL ACADEMY. It was inspiring to learn what these two trailblazers have accomplished. Special thanks to Carry Bergum, former HHS Spanish teacher, for organizing this event for students, staff, and stake- holders. April was Hmong Heritage Month in the state of Wisconsin. Our PBIS Team organized a lesson recognizing Hmong Heritage the week of April 26th--recognizing and celebrating the diversity in our build- ing. We also shared PowerPoint slides on our scrolling announce- ments in the commons area honoring Hmong leaders. Our HHS Equity & Inclusion parent group continues to review and provide feedback on the district’s Anti-Bullying policy. We are still looking for parents that would like to join this team. We meet biweek- ly on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm. Please email Wayne Sackett at [email protected] if you are interested in joining this group. This important work will help us to realize success in achieving our mission and vision. Be Your Best, Wayne E. The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a program co-sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation. For some students, the PSAT/NMSQT is the first official step on the road to college. It assesses skills de- veloped through years of study in a wide range of courses as well as through expe- riences outside the classroom. The PSAT is recommended for juniors who are to- wards the top of their class and/or are planning on taking the SAT (Scholastic Apti- tude Test) as part of their college admission. The PSAT will be open to our junior class first. The PSAT will be given at the District Office on Wednesday, October 13th, 2021 from 7:45 a.m. to approximately 11:15 a.m. Students will enter the district office from the student parking lot area. Students should look for a sign for which door to enter. Students are responsible for checking with their teacher for missing work dur- ing the test time. Their attendance will be excused for the time they are testing. Stu- dents can fill out this google form to sign up for this test. Students will need to have a $16 check made out to Holmen High School turned in upon our return to school. Students taking the PSAT should bring two #2 pencils and a calculator (calculators are not necessary for this test but are allowed – they will not be provided on the day of the test.) If you have any questions regarding the PSAT, please contact your stu- dents counselor via email.
