VIFF Forum and the Directors Guild of Canada “Breaks Bad” with director Michelle MacLaren

Vancouver, BC ‐ VIFFs Film and Television Forum in partnership with the Directors Guild of Canada is proud to host a special ‘question & answer‘ presentation with Emmy award‐winning executive producer and director, Michelle MacLaren.

From the critically acclaimed and to The Walking Dead and Hell on Wheels, MacLaren has mastered the art of turning heart‐stopping action scenes into unforgettable character studies.

MacLaren has directed some of Breaking Bad‘s best and most pivotal episodes, beginning with Season 2‘s “4 Days Out” and ending with Season 5‘s jaw‐dropping shoot‐out “To‘hajiilee.” Hitfix‘s Alan Sepinwall wrote “4MacLaren shoots every image of Walter White in the desert like it's the conclusion of an epic feature film, Walter of Arabia." Join us for what is sure to be a fascinating and fun session with Michelle as she discusses and dissects some of her favourite scenes from Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. “The DGC is delighted to work with VIFF on events like this one as it fits seamlessly with the work we do across the country,” stated Brian Baker, DGC National Executive Director. “The DGC aims to promote and support the work of its Members and we look forward to a long relationship with VIFF.”

The mandate to which our programs and services are built upon are; to encourage the understanding of other nations through the art of cinema, foster the art of cinema, facilitate the meeting of cinema professionals from around the world in BC, and stimulate the motion picture industry in BC and Canada. In its 33rd year, the Vancouver International Film Festival welcomes the world to Vancouver for 16 days (September 25 ‐ October 10, 2014) as it showcases the top BC, Canadian and International independent films and plays host to industry professionals from around the globe.

VIFF Film and Television Forum runs October 1 ‐ 4, 2014. Now in its 29th year, the Forum is western Canada‘s premier industry event for film and television professionals. The 2014 Forum will be quite possibly the most exciting ever, with a tremendous roster of top‐tier Canadian and international film and television talent in Vancouver for four intensive days of industry‐relevant master classes, panels, labs, individual meetings and networking receptions. The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) is a national labour organization that represents 3,000 key creative and logistical personnel in the screen‐based industry covering all areas of direction, design, production and editing. The DGC negotiates and administers collective agreements and lobbies extensively on issues of concern for members including Canadian content conditions, CRTC regulations and ensuring that funding is maintained for Canadian screen‐based programming.
