Arrogate Dies from Undetermined Illness WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 2020 ARROGATE DIES FROM INTO MISCHIEF FILLY SETS NEW FURLONG MARK AT OBS by Jessica Martini UNDETERMINED ILLNESS A filly by Into Mischief (hip 429) turned in the fastest furlong work of the week so far (:9 3/5) and a pair of juveniles shared the day=s fastest quarter-mile time during Tuesday=s third under- tack preview session ahead of next week=s Ocala Breeders= Sales Company=s Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. A filly by Street Sense (hip 493), consigned by Pick View, and a colt by Runhappy (hip 1266), consigned by S B M Training and Sales, both covered the quarter-mile distance in :20 3/5. Five juveniles have turned in furlong-works in :9 4/5 over the first three sessions of the seven-day under-tack show, but hip 429, a daughter of Into Mischief, was a tick faster with her breakout :9 3/5 work Tuesday. The filly is out of multiple stakes winner and graded placed Shanon Nicole (Majestic Warrior) and is consigned by Randy Bradshaw on behalf of her breeder, Sharon Hudon=s Sierra Farm. AThey worked tirelessly with the staff from the Hagyard Clinic eliminating all the obvious causes and performing all available tests, including spinal tap evaluation, X-ray, ultrasound, CT Scan and many blood tests. AUnfortunately, Arrogate was still unable to stand after four exhausting days for him. His will to fight, so valuable to him on the racetrack, became a challenge in his care.     Funny Cide’s Epic Kentucky Derby Victory is Ten Years Old By Bill Heller Can it be ten years since a three-year-old gelding named Funny Cide, and a yellow school bus carrying a group of high school friends who owned him, rearranged the racing industry’s position on New York- breds? “I don’t believe it,” his retired Hall of Fame jockey Jose Santos said Tuesday. “It went by too fast.” Funny Cide’s trainer, Barclay Tagg, agreed: “I do have trouble believing that.” Asked what’s the first thing that comes to his mind when someone asks him about Funny Cide, Jose said, “That he was the best three-year-old in my racing career.” These days, Jose has a new career running a feed company, Instride International, which began operating in 2012 and now serves three Florida tracks: Calder, Gulfstream Park and Palm Meadows. “Basically, I’m running the whole thing,” Jose said. “I’ve been selling to the trainers. They are friends of mine.” His client list includes a bunch of New York trainers who winter in Florida, including Todd Pletcher, John Kimmel, Linda Rice, Rick Violette and John Terranova. Funny Cide, a son of Distorted Humor out of Belle’s Good Cide by Slewacide, was bred by WinStar Farm and foaled at Joe and Anne McMahon’s Thoroughbred farm just outside Saratoga Springs. He was originally purchased for $22,000 before Tagg bought him for $75,000 for Sackatoga Stable, an entity formed when several old friends got together for a Memorial Day barbecue in their home town of Sackets Harbor.

Fahey noted that the popular contest has become more difficult to win. "The Lincoln has got a lot tougher to win in the last five years, but Gabrial was a decent horse," said Fahey. "He was a group horse in a handicap really, whereas Brae Hill was a good, hardy handicapper, the type that used to do well in it. "Our horses are always very fit when they run in it.
