Yet, as I argue, this world-colonizing force is not neutral. The anticipatory projection and world-building characteristic of scientific theorization are grounded in a practical comportment, so that the essence of technology or Craft is ontologically prior to theoretical science. In other words, science is always already Technoscience. -

Preface THIS BOOK was written because of my admiration for Thomas Hardy's The Dynasts, and because of my feeling that the last word has not yet been said about it. What I want to do is reemphasize the meaning behind Hardy's descriptive epithet, "epic-drama," To that end, I have retraced Hardy's career up to the moment he renounced the writing of novels and became a full-time poet. Poetry, for Hardy, was always the highest form of art; it was the kind of literature he wanted most to create. For years he had been contemplating a large work, a poem on the epic scale, which he needed time to write. It may be no exaggeration to say that his entire life led up to The Dynasts, and that for him it represented the supreme artistic work of his career. Since The Dynasts has often been considered primarily in terms of its philosophy, although Hardy declared vehemently on several occasions that his poem should be judged on artistic grounds, it has seemed worthwhile to reexamine the views that Hardy held on the nature of the universe and whatever gods exist. -

American Sculptor Paul Manship Celebrated At the Addison Gallery of American Art Exhibition Debuts New Series of Works by Photographers Barbara Bosworth, Justin Kimball, S. Billie Mandle, and Abelardo Morell Andover, Massachusetts (July 26, 2018)—Exploring notions of place in American art throughout its 2018– 2019 program, this fall the Addison Gallery of American Art will open From Starfield to MARS: Paul Manship and his Artistic Legacy. The exhibition examines the work and influence of Paul Manship (1885– 1966) through two interconnected components: Art Deco at Andover considers the Addison's historic connection with the prominent early 20th-century sculptor Paul Manship, while Starfield through Contemporary Lenses presents the work of four artists-in-residence at the Manship Artists Residency + Studios (MARS) program established this year in Gloucester, Massachusetts. MARS is being developed as an international, interdisciplinary artists’ residency at Manship’s former summer home and studio, which he dubbed Starfield, to create new works inspired by the artist and his estate. The first class of artists-in-residence were selected by Addison curator Allison N. Kemmerer, and include acclaimed Massachusetts-based photographers Barbara Bosworth, Justin Kimball, S. Billie Mandle, and Abelardo Morell, who bring individual perspectives and aesthetic approaches to interpreting Manship’s estate and archives. These artists will also participate in the Addison’s fall 2018 Edward E. Elson Artist-in-Residence program, collaborating with students and faculty at Phillips Academy and area public schools on projects inspired by the exhibition. When I began research for a pseudo-production of Prometheus Bound, I began my search by solely looking for an engaging and lyrical translation. Among the thirty-plus translations and adaptations, Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s 1856 translation possesses a unique lyricism I find incredibly compelling. However, after the buoyant joy associated with finding the perfect play, I soon was drowning in Classical scholarship, endless literary commentary, stale summations of Greek Theatre practices, and sore arms and eyes from carrying books or boring through obscure digital articles. I am a graduate student in their late twenties who has no experience as a dramaturg on a Greek play; surely to understand it I need digest the thousands of years of lineage that leads me to this moment in the first place. -

Robert Graves – The Greek Myths 1955, revised 1960 Robert Graves was born in 1895 at Wimbledon, son of Alfred Perceval Graves, the Irish writer, and Amalia von Ranke. He went from school to the First World War, where he became a captain in the Royal Welch Fusiliers. His principal calling is poetry, and his Selected Poems have been published in the Penguin Poets. Apart from a year as Professor of English Literature at Cairo University in 1926 he has since earned his living by writing, mostly historical novels which include: I, Claudius; Claudius the God; Sergeant Lamb of the Ninth; Count Belisarius; Wife to Mr Milton (all published as Penguins); Proceed, Sergeant Lamb; The Golden Fleece; They Hanged My Saintly Billy; and The Isles of Unwisdom. He wrote his autobiography, Goodbye to All That (a Penguin Modem Classic), in 1929. His two most discussed non-fiction books are The White Goddess, which presents a new view of the poetic impulse, and The Nazarene Gospel Restored (with Joshua Podro), a re-examination of primitive Christianity.
