I have always believed that a school is a of Cincinnati) to take part in their last competition of the reflection of the community that it serves. Your continued support of the Van Buren season at the Fairfield Crystal Classic on Saturday, Schools shows that you care about the education that your children receive. I also March 3, 2012. Don’t forget — Cabaret 2012 will round out their far into the future as possible. year on April 20-21! Winter or what little we had of winter this year, is nearly over and Spring is just Fairfield Trophy around the corner. Winter sports are complete and many other activities such as Show Choir are wrapping up. While no athletic championships were won this season, continuous improvement was evident throughout the season. The Show Choir has had another extremely successful year. Spring sports have begun practicing and before long the crack of the bat and the pounding of feet on the track will be heard on campus. Please take the time to consider becoming a part of these and other programs at school through the Athletic Boosters, the Music Boosters, and the Academic Boosters. All of the help and support that these groups provide help us to offer many of the outside the classroom activities in which our students can participate. Along with a supportive community and quality students, a school’s staff is its most vital resource. Seventy-five percent of our budget is related to staffing costs. We have, and have been blessed in the past, with some outstanding staff. Recently we have had and this summer we are anticipating some retirements of some of our most distin- guished staff members. Jan August retired December and Cheryl Swisher was hired as the district’s new Treasurer. While Jan was a steadying influence and vital corner stone of the district (and greatly missed), Cheryl has done an outstanding job and is constantly evaluating new ways to improve our fiscal system. I would invite all of you to take some time to introduce yourself to our new Treasurer. As always, I invite you to visit and attend any and all activities at the school. This organization was chosen by NHS members because of the much needed assistance they provide for cancer patients and their families in Hancock County. The event is open to all high school students who pledge to walk five miles for donations, of which 100% will go to CPS. The students that collect donations will enjoy a fun-filled atmosphere of music and games as they walk around the track.
