0 R STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2001 No. 1220 CORONERS The Suffolk (Coroners’ Districts) Order 2001 Made---- 26th March 2001 Laid before Parliament 4th April 2001 Coming into force 1st May 2001 Whereas the Council of the County of Suffolk have, in pursuance of section 4(2) of the Coroners Act 1988(a) and after due compliance with the provisions of the Coroners (Orders as to Districts) Rules 1927(b), submitted to the Secretary of State a draft Order providing for the alteration of the existing division of that county into coroners’ districts; Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 4(2) of the Act hereby makes the following Order: 1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Suffolk (Coroners’ Districts) Order 2001. (2) This Order shall come into force on 1st May 2001. (3) This Order shall not have effect in relation to any inquest begun before the day on which it comes into force or to any post-mortem examination which, before that day, a coroner has directed or requested a medical practitioner to make. 2. The existing Ipswich coroner’s district and West Suffolk coroner’s district (as constituted by the Suffolk (Coroners’ Districts) Order 1984(c)) shall be amalgamated to form a single coroner’s district called the Greater Suffolk Coroner’s District. 3. Accordingly, the County of Suffolk shall be divided into two coroners’ districts and each such coroner’s district shall consist of the area specified in column 2 of the Schedule to this Order opposite to the name of the coroner’s district in question as given in column 1 of that Schedule. 4. In the District of Mid Suffolk the parishes of: Akenham, Ashbocking, Bacton, Badley, Badwell Ash, Barham, Barking, Battisford, Baylham, Beyton, Botesdale, Bramford, Buxhall, Claydon, Coddenham, Combs, Cotton, Creeting St Mary, Creeting St Peter, Crowfield, Drinkstone, Earl Stonham, Elmswell, Felsham, Finningham, Flowton, Gedding, Gipping, Gosbeck, Great Ashfield, Great Blakenham, Great Bricett, Great Finborough, Harleston, Haughley, Helmingham, Hemingstone, Henley, Hesset, Hinderclay, Hunston, Langham, Little Blakenham, Little Finborough, Needham Market, Nettlestead, Norton, Offton, Old Newton, Onehouse, Rattlesden, Redgrave, Rickinghall Inferior, Rickinghall Superior, Ringshall, Shelland, Somersham, Stowlangtoft, Stowmarket, Stowupland, Thurston, Tostock, Walsham-le-Willows, Wattisfield, Wetherden, Westhorpe, Whitton, Willisham, Woolpit and Wyverstone. Lowestoft The District of Waveney, that part of the Districts of Mid Suffolk and Suffolk Coastal not contained in the Greater Suffolk coroner’s district. 2 0 R EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order) The County of Suffolk was divided into three coroners’ districts by the Suffolk (Coroners’ Districts) Order 1984. This Order replaces the two districts of West Suffolk and Ipswich by one district called Greater Suffolk.
