Why have I been sent PCR tests?

You have been sent 2 PCR tests in order to support the Event Research Programme gather research on COVID-19 virus transmission at the pilot event.

Why have I been sent 2 PCR tests?

There are 2 tests so you can take one test before the match (as close as possible to the match) and also one after the match (5 days later). The Event Research Programme then uses the test results to make comparisons between pre and post-match virus prevalence amongst attendees.

Will a positive PCR test result prevent me from being able to watch the match at Wembley?

You have been asked to take and return by post the first PCR test as close as possible to the match (on Saturday 15th May). The PCR tests that have been posted to you are identified as part of the Events Research Programme. While you may get an alert through Test and Trace, these are unlikely to occur prior to attending the match. Should you receive a positive PCR test result even though you received a negative lateral flow (LFD) test result, you will be asked to adhere to national guidance following the positive PCR test. You may be asked to take further confirmatory tests as necessary.

Why can I not take a PCR test at a local site, why do I have to use the PCR tests that have been posted to me?

The PCR tests that have been posted to you are identified as part of the Events Research Programme and sequenced to support further virus variant identification.
