If this baptismal practice is in the Name of the Father and of the Son administered only at the very beginning of one’s Christian life, but creating an abiding trivialized, or taken lightly, then the real and of the Holy Spirit. This being so, life in Christ is the living out of the Christians’ baptism into subversion of meaning. When one is baptised in any of the as they grow deeper into their baptismal identity. Many years ago Aidan Kavanagh In the Anglican Book of Common Prayer various churches, that person is made a commented that we must see the impact of a baptism within the holy people of God. It is not simply something done to or for the person. The newly baptized brings their gifts into the life of the community in which they will worship and in which their faith will be nourished by word and sacrament. The unfolding of their life in Christ can have profound impact upon the life of that community. What are the values involved in baptism? Conversion to Christianity means the living out of the moral implications of a Christian profession of faith. St Gregory of Nyssa admonishes that there are, “Those who have come to the grace of baptism and yet who are only seemingly, and not really regenerate.” Such a statement suggests that such a sacramental act, even the abundant rites of that time, was somehow invalid. The new birth effected in baptism, a dying and rising with Christ, is undermined if that new being is not evident. The point which Gregory makes is that the rites can be celebrated and yet not effect what they signify. But let us not forget or lose sight of the fact that the effectiveness of the sacraments is affirmed rest upon God’s action and that this is not undone by human inadequacy. It is to be understood then that the importance of baptism is not only incorporated into the church, but also the true transformation of the person’s life; if it is not so exemplified, Gregory believes “the water” used is but “water.” Here, Tertullian’, second century theologian phrase is appropriate “Christians are made, not born.”

The Federation’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas told the 28th Private Sector Banquet of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce that the global recession has severely impacted the economy of St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as the other member states of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU). He said the crisis has resulted in a severe decline in tourist arrivals, remittances, construction and related Foreign Direct Investments. “The way forward points to the opportunity for St. Kitts and Nevis to refine its mode of doing business, to improve levels of efficiency and productivity throughout the public and private sectors, and the opportunity to set new standards in all areas of economic activity,” Prime Minister Douglas told the business community. He pointed out that the Federation was especially hard hit by the closure of the Four Seasons Resort in October 2008 after the passage of Hurricane Omar. “These factors resulted in a contraction of 9.6 percent of real output in 2009. The construction sector declined by an estimated 25 percent due to the downturn in private sector development projects as demand fell off for long-term investments. Activity in the tourism sector also contracted by 20 percent as increased international airfares and high unemployment in our major source markets influenced the industry,” said Prime Minister Douglas. He pointed out that the cruise industry remained vibrant and actually expanded by 13.5 percent as the industry continued to benefit from negotiations with cruise lines and strategic marketing campaigns by the Tourism Authority. Dr. Douglas said the Central Government has been experiencing a decrease in its revenues, and, as such, has only limited fiscal space to respond to the crisis. “Recognizing that more space had to be created, so that assistance could be given where needed, the Government has exercised further fiscal restraint and prioritized expenditure to those areas that would spur growth. As is well known, we have provided a stimulus package to small hotels, standalone restaurants and small and medium enterprises through the provision of tax and duty concessions. The unemployed youth in the Federation were also targeted through the Youth Empowerment Through Skills Programme. All of these elements, when taken together, would have positive impact in the short and medium terms,” said Prime Minister Douglas. By: Vigilante * Judge Dread made it crystal clear at their so-called convention that he was the one who hand-picked the embattled and discredited PAM leader and he, Judge Dread, still run things in de party. * When asked on his return to Anguilla, why he openly abused the Gang of 5 like that – calling them a bunch of small boys, crooks and traitors – Judge Dread remarked that an attack on de little pompous and hopeless fellow, was an attack on he, Judge Dread. He put him there and he going damn well stay there. Nobody could move him, but he Judge Dread. * Judge Dread reportedly went on to brag how he fired from Governor to No.2 cleaner; even a Deputy Prime Minister on All Fools’ Day. And, De expired PAM leader has to carry on his legacy as a ruthless and vindictive dictator. He’s accountable to nobody in PAM or de country but he, Judge Dread. * Since Judge Dread’s vicious attack on de Gang of 5, he has opened up more wounds in de party. And, more and more PAMites throughout the country are throwing their full support behind de Gang of 5 and pushing them to break away and form a brand new political party. * Dey say under Judge Dread and de pappy-show “Fitzy”, the Party is too corrupt and is not ready to govern and serve. And they agree fully wid de Welshman PAM trump that there is now need (urgenrly) to get rid of PAM and form a new party with real grassroots people at the head. * We are reliably informed that candidates are being sought presently by the leadership of the proposed new party for the next General Elections in 2015. * The disgruntled PAM supporters are also calling for a detailed and comprehensive audit of the Party’s 2010 Election Fund. And they are demanding answers about the missing millions, which reportedly ended up in de offshore (private) accounts of “Mr. Integrity” and “de fly on de wall”. * De rejected doctor in de West was fixed up wid de post of Deputy Party Chairman after he threatened to join de Gang of 5 and expose the little pompous hopeless fellow, who he admits made a fool of himself and the party at the Marriott. * Since they crook Cindy Lopez with the post, she can’t catch she self, bawling: How Lindsay and Shawn could do her that? They fox her with de senator wuk and now they leave her in the cold with the Deputy Chairperson job for a joker. * The performance of PAM PRO on de radio talk show on Saturday last was so terrible and embarrassing for de wounded party that they had to remove him quickly and send de chatterbox Guyanese lady to finish de job. And she too was a real disaster. * Another big war is brewing in de party between de 1/4lb Onion Chairman and Baby Grant and dejected PAM leader and other members of his motley crew. They are still accusing him of leaking the Gang of 5 letter to the media, but he is blaming “de fly on de wall”, who has accused of cutting on two sides. * People want to know how they making big noise now about consultation, when they consulted nobody in the naming of the Bronte Welsh Primary School, Mary Charles Hospital and the Kennedy Simmonds Highway (when PAM was the government). * The word on the street is that they are offering over $300,000 and a house in Godwin Ghaut to buy out a certain newspaper. * Dey say de left-handed fellow was blue vex at the graduation because he was passed over for a member of de Gang of 5 to hand out de certificates. 24 - ADVERTISEMENT - The Labour Spokesman FRIDAY, JULY 16TH 2010
