We have been unable to worship in numbers since March and even now although our church is open, numbers are limited and we still cannot sing. Fortunately, with the help of Vicki Payne, Peter and Jack Fellows, our young people and the support of their parents we were able to pre- record our Crib Service back in October, using brothers and sisters for many scenes and children not related being kept 2m apart as guidelines state, we were able to film everything in a fun and safe way. Services at St Barnabas December 2020– January 2021

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought about many unprecedented changes, not least in the way we have to offer church services now. Assuming that Lockdown ends on 2nd December, the church will be very much open for worship during December and January (as detailed on the previous and opposite pages) and for private prayer during the week. We are following strict guidelines in order to keep everyone as safe as possible – we only have 15 household/bubble seating spaces in order to maintain safe social distancing, face masks are mandatory for attendees (unless they are exempt), hands must be sanitised, there can be no congregational singing. Private Prayer lf you would like to come into the church for private prayer it is open at the following times: Mondays 2.30 – 4.30 Thursdays 10.30 – 12.30 Saturdays 11.00 – 1.00 We live-stream via Facebook Live on our FB page, St Barnabas Church. lf you'd like to attend a service, you will need to book your place. Please do so by: (1) using the “Contact Us” form on our website, www.stbarnabas.org.uk, (2) emailing the Vicar – [email protected],s or (3) telephoning The Revd Claire Towns on 01489 808968.

As the second lockdown began on November 5th we were unable to hold our normal monthly work party but at the moment plan to go ahead with the next one on December 12th. Fortunately at this time of year even the bramble growth slows down, although if it stays mild it won't slow down very much – just like our lawns. We are lucky that one of our members has volunteered to keep the ditch leading into the pond clear so that the water doesn't flood the path. We are also grateful to everyone whether members of the village litter picking group or other local residents who keep the Conservation Area looking so good by picking up litter. We would also like to thank all the carers who supported Derek for many years allowing him to be cared for at home. These include the kind agency staff of Tru-Caring and Request and in particular Constantin who was Derek's night-time carer and right hand man for more than five years. Special thanks to Derek Bacheldor and Sue Harfield who frequently looked after him, allowing me to take a break, and also friends in the village who regularly sat with Derek especially Geoff Goodwin who always brought a smile to Derek's face. As many of you will remember, Derek was a larger than life character in his heyday; life is a little less colourful without him and we will always miss him. Denise Lord
