Good evening and a very warm welcome to Culver Road for tonight's SCFL Premier Division fixture between the Lancers and East Preston FC. It's good to be back, again!

We hope you have all kept safe throughout the 2nd lockdown and are looking forward to watching football around the County once more.

Our last match was at Reading City in the FA Vase, a 1 nil victory has seen us drawn against our very close neighbours Worthing United in Round Two this coming Saturday at Culver, 3pm ko.

Tonight we welcome our friends from East Preston. The game was scheduled to be played at theirs, however a phone call from their chairman Terry asked if we could switch to ours and we go to them near Easter. It is more important than ever now to be able help our fellow football clubs during difficult times and we all appreciate your support whoever you choose to support locally.

This Christmas we have three home holiday fixtures - fancy sponsoring a match!? Steyning 26th Dec, Crawley Down 28th Dec, Hassocks 2nd Jan. £50 per match, you get 2 free tickets and a Lancing FC scarf!

As usual, we'd like to thank all of our teams and supporters for following all of the ever-changing COVID-19 safety measures here at Culver Road. Should you have any questions during your stay, please do approach one of our committee members or stewards.

Enjoy the game!

The club was established in 1941, initially as a multi-sport club under the name Lancing Athletic. They joined the Brighton, Hove & District League in 1946 and went on to win the Division One and League Cup double in their first season. The club applied to join the Sussex County League, but were rejected. However, after retaining the Brighton, Hove & District League title in 1947–48, the club were then admitted to the Sussex County League, at which point they became a separate organisation to the remainder of the sports club. They were Sussex County League runners-up in 1949–50, only missing out on the title on goal average. When the league gained a second division in 1952 the club became members of Division One, but were relegated to Division Two after finishing bottom of the table in 1956–57.

In 1957 the club dropped Athletic from their name. They were Division Two champions at the first attempt, earning promotion back to Division One. The club won the League Cup in 1964–65, beating City 2–0 in the final, and went on to win the Sussex RUR Cup the following season with a 3–0 win over Rye United. However, they were relegated again at the end of the 1967–68. Although the club won the Division Two title in 1969–70 and were promoted back to Division One, two seasons later they were relegated back to Division Two after finishing bottom of Division One. The club won the Division Two Cup in 1981–82.

Lancing remained in Division Two until a second-place finish in 1982–83 saw them promoted to Division One. They were relegated again at the end of the 1989–90 season and spent the next ten seasons in Division Two, winning the Division Two Cup again in 1992–93, before earning promotion with a third-place finish in 1999–2000. However, the club were relegated back to Division Two at the end of the following season. In 2010–11 they were Division Two runners-up, earning promotion to Division One. In 2015 the league was renamed the Southern Combination, with Division One becoming the Premier Division.

In the 2017/18 season, first team manager Jon Sharman, assisted by Nigel Geary & Malcolm Saunders, led the Lancers to 10th place in the Southern Combination . At the end of the season, Chairman, Jon Rea, resigned from his role, in addition to Jon Sharman and Nigel Geary.

For the 2018/19 season, Steve Taylor was elected Chairman to replace the departing Jon Rea, and was joined by Daniel Fuller- Smith as Secretary, whilst Barry Sutton was promoted to the role of Vice-Chairman. With 4 new teams – Ladies, two Under-18 squads and a Veterans side – joining the existing First Team and Under-23s, the club gained FA Charter Standard Community status in February 2019. Unfortunately Ash Bailey was forced to retire from his post as First Team manager in September for family commitments, and was replaced by Mark Pulling who enabled the team to finish 13th in the SCFL Premier Division table.

During the season, the club launched a new mental health initiative, named the ‘You’re Not In This Alone’ campaign, through offering free entry to supporters with mental health issues, raising over £400 for Mind Lancing, supporting the Time to Talk Day in February 2019, and raising over £1,000 for CALM – The Campaign Against Living Miserably. In addition, Lancing supported the Fairtrade Foundation through the purchasing of Fairtrade certified footballs for the new Ladies squad. The club came runners-up in the Active Sussex ‘Club of the Year’ category in November 2018, where a presentation was held at The Grand Hotel, Brighton.

On 16th February 2019, the club was saddened to hear about the passing of long-serving committee member, Michael Clark, who managed the 100 Club, manned the turnstile and supported the club in the later years of his life.

In the 2019/20 season, the club introduced a new Disability team, and appointed a new First Team management team, consisting of Naim Rouane, David Altendorff and Kane Louis for the season. The first team had an excellent season, the best in the club’s history, however the season was brought to a premature end following the COVID-19 outbreak. The Lancers were top of the league looking to be promoted, but with the season voided by the FA, were left to compete in the SCFL for another season.

Ahead of the 2020/21 season, Kane Louis and James Rhodes were appointed Joint Managers of the first team following Rouane’s & Altendorff’s departure, working alongside existing goalkeeper coach and physio, Mark Stuart and Georgie Hill.

It couldn’t be closer at the top of the Lancing FC Fantasy Football league with Hemstone Holmes and Fantasy Football expert Lee Cowan locked at the top on 715 points. Lee made the right call on his captaincy this week by picking Kevin De Bruyne who waded in with a goal and an assist compared to the single assist from Hemstone’s choice of Bruno Fernandes and it was that decision that was key in allowing Lee to close the gap at the top. Your choice for captain for Gameweek 12 will be key in maximising your points. Mo Salah looks a solid bet as Liverpool continue their free scoring form and an away match against a leaky Fulham defence on Sunday should yield him plenty of point scoring opportunities. Jamie Vardy will also be looking to add to his tally as his Leicester side welcome Brighton to the King Power but I cannot see Brighton allowing Vardy much space to run in to and I think they will limited his opportunities. Harry Kane and Tottenham travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday but will find a Palace defence that has conceded fewer goals that Liverpool, Man Utd and Everton a tough nut to crack and Spurs have hardly been prolific away from home. With the Manchester derby on Saturday being very difficult to call I would lean towards Salah this weekend to earn you the biggest double points haul.

01903 367140 EAST PRESTON FC - HISTORY

East Preston FC was originally formed in 1947, but unfortunately within ten years the club had folded. However it was reformed, as the present club in 1966 when it was elected to the Worthing League.

East Preston then moved on to the West Sussex League for the start of the 1968/69 season before becoming founder members of the newly formed Sussex County League Division Three in 1983/84, having won a number of honours in the seasons leading up to that. The club won Division Three at the first attempt but were unable to take their place in senior football as the ground and facilities were not up to the required standard.

The club remained in Division Three until 1990/91 when they gained promotion once again, this time as runners up to Ifield. However this lasted just one season before being relegated back the following year. After a couple of near misses they finally achieved promotion again at the end of the 1994/95 season. In that promotion season they achieved a memorable treble, also winning the Division 3 Cup and the Sussex Intermediate Cup.

In 1997/98 promotion to Division One was achieved for the first time in the club’s history. The club acquitted itself well for two seasons, finishing fourth in 1999/00 before a season of crisis saw them relegated in 2000/01. Recovery however, was swift and East Preston were immediately promoted back to the top flight. Following a season of consolidation, 2003/04 saw East Preston once again a leading force in the top division, finishing third behind Chichester City United, and just missing out on the runners-up spot on goal difference to Rye & Iden United.

2004/05 saw the club reach the third qualifying round of the FA Cup eventually bowing out at home to Billericay Town.

For the start of the 2011/12 season Dominic Di Paola was appointed manager, to start the most successful period in the clubs history.

The 2011/12 season proved to be a very successful one as the club ran away with the Division 2 title, securing promotion before any other senior side in the country and also claiming the league and cup double, beating local rivals Littlehampton 5-1 in the Division 2 cup final.

In 2012/13 season East Preston finished 3rd in Div 1 and in 2013/14 won the Div 1 title by 17 pts but were denied entrance into the Rymans League due to not meeting the ground grading requirements. In 2014/15 manager Dom Di Paola left in October for Hastings Utd and the successful team broke up. A period of upheaval followed, and the team finished 11th in the league.

Worse was to follow in 2015/16 when the club finished second from bottom and were relegated back to SCFL Division One.

In Summer 2016 the club appointed Bob Paine as manager following his successful period at Worthing with their Under 21 team.

The re-building process has started with the club winning promotion back to the Premier Division at first attempt. As well as winning promotion the club won the overall Respect Award for the Division as well as each of the individual awards throughout the season.

The Summer of 2019 saw significant management changes and EP approach the new season with a complete new squad of players and plenty of optimism.
