FCC EEO Training Michelle Ott 05/06/2019- Management from KAAL received training on 05/06/2019 the FCC's rules regarding equal employment opportunities. They also reviewed EEO laws and HBI's policy and program to ensure equal employment opportunities in the work place.
Job Shadow Students 08/02/2019- 8/2/19 A student from St. Cloud State 11/18/2019 University shadowed a KAAL-TV Meteorologist. He was able to watch a live morning show, tried out with the green screen, recorded weather casts and was provided feedback from the Meteorologist. 11/17/19-11/18/19 A recent college graduate visited the studio for two days to shadow an anchor, reporter and photographer. He was able to observe each position and follow day to day routines.
Midwest Journalism Conference John Murray 04/12/2019- The KAAL News Director attended the Career Fair 04/12/2019 Midwest Journalism Conference Career Fair on behalf of KAAL. This was a career fair geared toward college students across the Midwest looking for career opportunities in the broadcasting industry.
NAB Job Fair Michael Hammond 04/09/2019- KAAL-TV leadership attended the NAB Job 04/09/2019 Fair to meet potential professionals in the broadcasting industry who are looking for new career opportunities.
School Visits Various School Officials 03/12/2019- 3/12/19 A KAAL Anchor visited Austin High 10/10/2019 School. She was the guest speaker in honor of Women's History Month. She shared her background and success in Broadcast with 1,200 High School Students. 4/5/19 A KAAL Meteorologist spoke with 8th Grade Students at Alden-Conger School about his job as a meteorologist. He discussed what is needed to become a Meteorologist and explained what they do (forecasting, severe weather, safety) with the goal of sparking an interest in weather and/or a career in meteorology. 4/26/19 A KAAL Meteorologist spoke with a group of 2nd grade students at Hayes Elementary School in Fridley MN. They spoke about how to become a meteorologist, how weather and severe weather form and how to stay safe. 7/12/19 A KAAL Meteorologist visited Sunset Terrace Elementary Summer School in Rochester, MN. They spoke about becoming a meteorologist, weather and severe weather safety. 9/19/19 a KAAL-TV Anchor spoke with a group of 5th graders at Gage Elementary School about careers in broadcasting as well as tips and tricks when interviewing someone. 10/10/19 A KAAL Anchor spoke at the University of St. Thomas at the Three Sixty Journalism Program. As an Alumna of the Journalism Program, she spoke to perspective students about a career in Journalism. Society of Professional Holly Rose 09/05/2019- The KAAL Station News Director attended Journalists and National Society 09/06/2019 this job fair on behalf of KAAL. The purpose of Hispanic Journalists Career of attending this two day event was to attract Fair and Conference and recruit potential talent to KAAL-TV.
STEAM Summit Sam Gill - Rochester Area 11/12/2019- Over 1,500 middle and high school students Chamber of Commerce 11/12/2019 visited the Summit, learning about careers in technology. KAAL Meteorologists set up a live Weather Center with a green screen to teach how science and math are used in forecasting the weather.
University of Minnesota - Duluth, Michael Hammond 09/12/2019- The station's Chief Engineer represented Engineering Internship and 09/12/2019 KAAL at this career fair. The purpose of the Career Fair event was to promote Hubbard Broadcasting and recruit entry level engineering talent.
