GUAJIRA, ECOTOURISM, CULTURE & TRADITION

One hundred twenty kilometers from Santa Marta we find the Los Flamencos Sanctuary of Fauna and Flora, located between the Caribbean Sea and the Desert or dry forest of the Guajira, a small area of coastal lagoons fed by streams where the birds that give the name to this sanctuary feed. The graceful flamingos and the majestic colors of their plumage are the principal attraction, which despite its reduced extension, is considered one of the richest protected zones in variety of resident and migratory aquatic birds.

This city where the Ranchería River flows into the sea permits the visitor to connect with the legacy of the Wayúu natives, manifest in their traditions and artisanal crafts, among which colorful tote bags stand out. We will do a tour of the city visiting the Plaza de Padilla, monument to Francisco the Man, the tourist pier, Cathedral of Our Lady of the Remedies, the house of Gabriel García Márquez’s grandparents, park of the cannons, the viewpoint and residential neighborhoods.
