The group of members at Holtspur who had just been clearing scrub, refreshing the information boards, clearing the footpath of obstructions, removing seedling shrubs from the ‘wrong place’ and planted them into the central hedge and the windbreak on Lower Field, clearing dogwood from Triangle Bank, making a small scallop into the top hedge, checking wobbly posts and making repairs to the fencing. Peter Cuss Peter Cuss I will be pleased to see the spring (which seems very slow to arrive this year) for a variety of reasons. One, is to relax after the large number of work parties. I haven’t kept a list of the number of the tasks we attended in previous winters but this year we advertised and we had members working at 46 conservation tasks. As a group of people that love butterflies and moths (and therefore cherish the places in which they live) we can take pride and feel relief, that our expertise has positively influenced the management of those places. Our volunteers have acted to halt, and hopefully reverse, the decline in numbers and their efforts have been magnificent. Furthermore, I haven’t included events such as Elm tree planting (by small groups of members), the nurturing of seedlings by many members, the preparation of display board information for our reserve and a number of other largely individual acts which took place during the same winter season. -

Aylesbury Vale North Locality Profile Prevention Matters Priorities The Community Links Officer (CLO) has identified a number of key Prevention Matters priorities for the locality that will form the focus of the work over the next few months. These priorities also help to determine the sort of services and projects where Prevention Matters grants can be targeted. The priorities have been identified using the data provided by the Community Practice Workers (CPW) in terms of successful referrals and unmet demand (gaps where there are no appropriate services available), consultation with district council officers, town and parish councils, other statutory and voluntary sector organisations and also through the in depth knowledge of the cohort and the locality that the CLO has gained. The CLO has also worked with the other CLOs across the county to identify some key countywide priorities which affect all localities. It is a very rural locality in the north of Buckinghamshire. There are officially 63 civil parishes covering the area (approximately a third of the parishes in Bucks). There are 2 small market towns, Buckingham and Winslow, and approximately 70 villages or hamlets (as some of the parishes cover more than one village). Population The total population of the Aylesbury Vale North locality (AV North) is 49,974 based on the populations of the 63 civil parishes from the 2011 Census statistics. -

Aylesbury Vale Councillor Update Economic Profile of Brill Ward April 2014 Produced by Buckinghamshire Business First’s research department P a g e | 2 1.0 Introduction Brill is home to 2,578 people and provides 800 jobs in 143 businesses. Of these businesses, 29 (20.3 per cent) are Buckinghamshire Business First members. There were 1,341 employed people aged 16-74 living in Brill ward at the 2011 Census, 14 fewer than the 1,355 recorded in 2001. Over that period the working age population fell 130 to 1,592 while the total population fell 147 to 2,578. The number of households rose by 7 (0.7 per cent) to 1,068. This was the 27th fastest increase in Aylesbury Vale and the 94th fastest . The largest companies in Brill include: Chilton House; Chilton Home Farms Ltd; Fennell Blake & Co Ltd; G S Mechanicals Ltd; L G Kimber Engineering Ltd; Merson I-Level Retail; and Magnolia Park Golf & Country Club There are nine Brill, representing 0.5 per cent of working age residents, including five claimants aged 18-24 and five who have been claiming for more than twelve months. Commercial fibre coverage (as provided by BT and Virgin Media) is set to cover 1 per cent of Brill by 2015. The Connected Countiesi project run by BBF will deliver a further 80 per cent through intervention in the Bicester, Brill, Ickford, Long Crendon and Stanton St John exchange areas. The project will deliver extended superfast footprint via additional funding, adaptation of downstream technology and contract claw-back mechanism. -

Neolithic to Early Bronze Age Buckinghamshire: a resource assessment Inheritance Mobility Although Neolithic populations are thought to have had continued mobility, more and more evidence for Neolithic settlement has come to light. In Buckinghamshire the most important evidence comes from excavations in advance of the construction of Eton Rowing Course (ERC) and the Maidenhead to Windsor and Eton Flood Alleviation Scheme (MWEFAS), mainly in the parish of Dorney in South Bucks on the Thames. The evidence points to intensive use of the area by people in the Early Neolithic but it is not certain that it represents year-round sedentary occupation rather than seasonal re-use (Allen et al 2004). Other evidence does point to continued mobility, such as the artefact scatters at Scotsgrove Mill, Haddenham (Mitchell 2004) and East Street, Chesham (Collard 1990) for example, reflecting visits over a long period of time. Persistent places Mesolithic persistent places continue to have meaning for Early and later Neolithic populations. These persistent places include East Street, Chesham (Collard 1990, 18) and Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age activity at Chessvale Bowling Club nearby (Halsted 2006, 23-8). Another persistent place seems to have been the lower reaches of the River Colne. Recent excavations at the Sanderson Site, Denham (Halsey 2005) continued the activity from nearby Three Ways Wharf, Uxbridge (Lewis 1991). Other persistent places include the attractive river valley location at Bancroft in Milton Keynes (Williams 1993, 5), and Scotsgrove Mill, Haddenham, where the River Thame meets one of its tributaries (Mitchell 2004, 1). These persistent places may have been the basis of evolving ideas about land tenure. -

Aylesbury Vale Councillor Update Economic Profile of Tingewick Ward April 2014 Produced by Buckinghamshire Business First’s research department P a g e | 2 1.0 Introduction Tingewick is home to 3,275 people and provides 2,000 jobs in 241 businesses. Of these businesses, 10 (4.1 per cent) are Buckinghamshire Business First members. There were 1,690 employed people aged 16-74 living in Tingewick ward at the 2011 Census, 175 more than the 1,515 recorded in 2001. Over that period the working age population rose 67 to 2,035 while the total population rose 205 to 3,275. The number of households fell by 118 (9.7 per cent) to 1,332. This is a fairly significant percentage increase and places the ward 9th out of all wards in Aylesbury Vale. Based on the increase in number of households, the ward ranks 20th out of all wards in Buckinghamshire. The largest companies in Tingewick include: Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd; Cartwright Landscapes; Chackmore C of E School; Finmere Fuels; Green Retreats LLP; Karavelle Ltd; and Quality Interior Components. There are 13 Tingewick, representing 0.6 per cent of working age residents, including five claimants aged 18-24 and ten who have been claiming for less than six months. Superfast broadband is expected to be available to 88 per cent of premises in the Tingewick ward by March 2016 with commercial providers responsible for 51 per cent. The Connected Counties project, run by BBF, deliver the remaining 37 per cent through its interventions in Buckingham, Crackley, Finmere and Syresham exchange areas. -

Applicants who express interest in properties are then prioritised by their level of housing need (Bands A- D) and then how long they have been on the Housing Register. No consideration has previously been given to where in the District the applicant is from or where the property is located. Following previous direction from Members at Environment and Living Scrutiny Committee officers developed a scheme which was subsequently approved at cabinet and council. This scheme divides Aylesbury Vale into four ‘sub groups’ and allows some extra preference to be given to applicants with a connection to their local community. For the purposes of this local lettings policy, Aylesbury Vale is split into four groups, (Greater Aylesbury, North, South West and South East) which are broadly consistent with current LAF (local area forum) areas. -

Aylesbury Vale District Housing Land Supply Position as at end March 2009 – prepared May 2009 Introduction This document sets out the housing land supply position in Aylesbury Vale District as at the end of March 2009. Lists of sites included in the housing land supply are given in Appendices 1, 2 and 3. Two sets of calculations are provided: firstly for the five years April 2009 to March 2014, and secondly for the five years April 2010 to March 2015. Housing requirement The housing requirement for Aylesbury Vale is set out in the South East Plan (May 2009) (SEP). The figures are as follows: 2006-2011 2011-2016 Aylesbury 3,800 4,400 Rest of District 1,100 1,100 Total 4,900 (980 per annum) 5,500 (1,100 per annum) Note – Regional policy (South East Plan policies H1, MKAV 1, 2 and 3) sets an annual average figure for the above. The phasing shown in the above table is taken from the South East Plan Panel report (para 23.41 onwards and 23.127 onwards) and will be revisited in line with the Growth Investment and Infrastructure policy approach as outlined in Policy CS14 of the Core Strategy.
