Fr. Spitzer is currently the President of the Magis Center of Faith and Reason and the Spitzer Center for Ethi- cal Leadership. The former is dedicated to showing the close connection between faith and reason in contem- porary astrophysics, philosophy, and historical study of the New Testament. The latter is dedicated to per- sonal and cultural transformation that supports principle-based ethics and leads to noble and enduring suc- cess. Some highlights of Fr. Spitzer’s professional life: He was President of from 1998 to 2009. During that time, he led the efforts to build 20 new facilities, increased the student population by 75%, raised more than $200 million for scholarships and capital projects, and significantly increased the faith, service, ethics, and leadership programs.

He is a Catholic Priest of the . He entered the Jesuits August 17, 1974, took first vows August 21, 1976, was ordained a priest on June 11, 1983 and took final vows April 4, 1992.

He has published five books:

He was Assistant Professor at and Associate Professor at and Gonzaga University where he received several academic awards, including, two scholarly chairs -- The Frank Shrontz Chair of Professional Ethics at Seattle University (1997-98) and the John Aram Chair of Business Ethics at Gonzaga University (1999-2000). Additionally, he received the Bunn Medal for most outstanding professor at Georgetown University,(1989); most outstanding professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Seattle University (1997); and the Desmet Medal – the highest honor awarded by Gonzaga University (2009). He also received the Catholic Leadership Award in Philadelphia in 2006.

His academic specialties are (1) Philosophy of Science, particularly space-time theory and transcendent implications of contemporary big bang cosmology, (2) metaphysics, particularly the theory of time and philosophy of God, and (3) organizational ethics and its relationship to personal and cultural transfor- mation. He has also studied leadership, historical exegesis of the New Testament, the life issues, and philosophy of culture.

He founded six major national institutes: 1. Philosophical Foundations of Physics (based at Georgetown University), 2. University Faculty for Life (based at Georgetown University), 3. Healing the Culture (based in Seattle, WA), 4. Colleagues in Jesuit Business Education (based at Gonzaga University), 5. Spitzer Center for Ethical Leadership (based in Ann Arbor, MI), and 6. Magis Center of Reason and Faith (based in Irvine, CA).

He has been a member of several Boards of Directors and Trustees, including: Seattle University, Gon- zaga University, National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), The Asso- ciation of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU), The Spokane Chamber of Commerce, The Inland Northwest Blood Center, NEXT IT (for-profit, Spokane, WA), as well as an officer on the Boards of the Institutes he founded.
