Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

    Official Return to Work State Guidelines for Foodservice Establishments Updated on 4/6/21 with updates for California, Florida, Maine, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. • California: On 4/2, the Los Angeles County Public Health Department announced that it issued a revised County Health Officer Order to reflect newly permitted activities in the Orange tier, effective Monday, 4/5. The changes are highlighted in yellow on the Order, and include that restaurants can increase capacity for indoor dining to 50% capacity or 200 people, whichever is less with continued safety modifications. • Florida: On April 5, Miami-Dade County Mayor Levine Cava issued Emergency Order 33-20, which cancels a series of prior orders. As summarized here, among other things, the order states a minimum occupancy of 50 percent for restaurants and other food establishments, and that these establishments shall be allowed to operate at up to 100 percent if the establishment ensures 6 feet of distance between tables and ensures that persons not actively eating or drinking are wearing facial coverings. • Maine: On 4/2, the City of Portland announced that its outdoor dining and retail program will begin Monday, 4/5 with the closure of several downtown streets. The program allows retailers and restaurants to apply to expand into public spaces, including closed streets, parklets, the public right-of-way, and parks. The program covers the entire City and not just the downtown area. • Oklahoma: On March 31, Norman Mayor Clark signed a proclamation extending the local state of emergency, restricting restaurant and bar capacity to 75%, and similarly limiting indoor gatherings and sporting events to 75% of event space.

    Chapter 15 Transition to Jet-Powered Airplanes Introduction This chapter contains an overview of jet powered airplane operations. The information contained in this chapter is meant to be a useful preparation for, and a supplement to, formal and structured jet airplane qualification training. The intent of this chapter is to provide information on the major differences a pilot will encounter when transitioning to jet powered airplanes. In order to achieve this in a logical manner, the major differences between jet powered airplanes and piston powered airplanes have been approached by addressing two distinct areas: differences in technology, or how the airplane itself differs; and differences in pilot technique, or how the pilot addresses the technological differences through the application of different techniques. For airplane-specific information, a pilot should refer to the FAA-approved Airplane Flight Manual for that airplane. 15-1 Jet Engine Basics Although the propeller-driven airplane is not nearly as efficient as the jet, particularly at the higher altitudes and cruising A jet engine is a gas turbine engine. ABSTRACT A portfolio of electroacoustic and acousmatic compositions realised through a variety of audio and audio-visual media, and with a particular emphasis on using speech as compositional material. The use of speech in compositions raises questions of political intent and responsibility, and these are addressed. The challenges of composing electroacoustic works for theatre, film and for a site specific installation are also discussed.
